Back in the hobby

Well I guess I should say hello after lurking in the shadows and a few posts.
After about 40 yrs of not building but occasionally buying it looks like I am building again. I don't even remember the last time I played with glue and plastic but it was the new release LAV-25 by Trumpeter. Put it up about half built and just resurrected it. Talk about ugly skills. Trying to make a sow's purse out of a pig's ear! Hobby has changed so much I feel like I am starting over!
Built a few aircraft before the LAV and each one is better than the previous one (as it should be) but still a long, long way to go. At my age skill development is slow and building even slower but it keeps me out of SWMBO's hair :smack:

Welcome along Chewie , i agree with the "hobby has changed " bit especially with paints. Gone are the days of Tamiya and Humbrol :)...that said i still think you have to go a long way to beat Tamiya. but then, i am old school and haven't really tried many others. :)

Thanks for the welcome and I agree with your paint observation. The only paint I use besides tamiya (so far) and my leftover Model Master's is the Alclad 2 metals. I have a few from AK (3rd gen) but seem to have issue's with it (mostly thinning i think). Probably me and sometimes I'm one of the "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" club. But I'll get there.........someday!

Welcome aboard Chewie. Yeah, the hobby world has changed greatly. No more the day of cruising the shelves to find that one thing you may or may not be looking for. How many kits did I build back in the day not even knowing what the subject really was other than a tank or an aircraft.

But it's an amazing time now, 3D printers are giving us items we never dreamed of and could only scratch build if we had that talent.

Let's see some of your work?

Welcome to the craziness!

SWMBO! I too have a SWMBO. A ConC House! Any questions you have, we will have 30 opinions, all of them useful.

Ha ha yes i have been trying to buy some Alclad brass for some time. I actually tried again today. Its now called Mig A stand in the UK and no one has it, i searched google and its just not stocked. A few other colours are available, but not brass.... The shame of it is when it was alclad it was half the price and made just up the road :) .

Didn't Mig just start using the Alclad 2 name without the real Alclad 2 folks approval? I got some of that brass Paddy but doubt I could get it to you.
Someone has jacked up their website something bad with Capta.

Welcome to MA Chewie! My "War Dept" passed away 24 years ago. After dating off and on for a few years I came to the realization that I was wasting my time, money, and whatever else that could be considered important on people that were only really interested in me as an ATM. I was done right there and am now living a content, peaceful life doing what I want, when I want, etc. and have no regrets.

I believe the actual Alclad 2 Brass is no longer produced. I still have some Humbrol Brass, Bronze and a bottle of Alclad 2 Brass. My guess is it looked so much like Gold that there wasn't any real need for the two different paints.

I just ordered Alclad 2 brass from Scalehobbyist at the end of December, still labeled Alclad 2. Hobbytown, here in Indy, has little to none in stock but I mainly buy the primer and gloss or flat clear coat (for now).

Welcome @Chewie01! I can only wonder what your Avatar will be! Tank destroyer!

Paint. Everyone and his dog makes paint anymore. Everyone has a favorite. So many tricks to lean to make it apply properly.
I inherited a bunch of Humbrol enamel tinlets and Model Master Military Modeler enamel paints from friends. I'm satisfied to use my 4th Testors Aztek airbrush to spray them.
The old tricks are the best tricks.
