We once had a thread on music and I just found some new stuff that I kind of like so I'll start the thread again. So far I have been introduced to some very cool music here at Modelers Alliance including one of my favorites Epica. Here is a new group to me that I am liking.Nightwish.

When I can model, I usually stream music from aol radio http://aolradio.slacker.com/. They have an all blues station that plays a variety of blues music that is my favorite. I also tend toward playing Jimmy Buffett in the garage while painting, but Hendrix and ZZ Top have been staples out there too. There must be some kind of way out here... :coolio

James if you like Nightwish there are whole load of bands like them, have a search on google but this forum thread is good to start with -

All of the Ayreon stuff is pretty epic and features lots of male and female vocalists from many bands including Nightwish on the most recent album.

Anyway for those who want to be crushed! -
Salty is the taste of DEATH!

Pandora Radio for me. Big Band, Mills Brothers and the Rat Pack. Sometimes Buffalo Sprifield Radio. That is if I don't have a movie playing.

No music while modeling, its either silence, sports talk radio,or a ballgame on the radio

Right now it's Pandora's Swingin' Christmas station which consists mostly of the stuff Kenny mentioned...basically the Christmas music that was on at my grandparents when I was a kid.

When it's not Christmas, it's normally the Tragically Hip or Rush...but to mix it up, Aloe Blacc has an amazing voice...

A friend of mine introduced me to Nightwish, and I really like their music. I have to say I prefer their stuff w/ there original singer Tarja Turunen, she's a classically trained soprano, so it brought a few interesting sound to the group.

I think this one is probably my favorite of theirs that I've heard so far.

The same friend also showed me Epica, which has a fairly similar sound

As for what I regularly listen to, I'm mostly into music by Queen & Journey and that kind of thing. Its funny that a lot of the music are from groups that are older than I am.

Here's the original of that which was written by the late Gary Moore -
Before he went all bluesy most of his 80's were rockers like that, go check him out.

If I really have to show my hand...

As a teenager in NYC in the late 70s, early 80s (yes, Taxi Driver is basically a documentary), you'd either find me in the Bowery:

Or the Village:

That said, I've always found the best music to work to art wise is early Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles. I have the box sets of the original Atlantic recordings and you can just get lost in their voices. John Coltrane is good for building too.

I've played bass my whole life, so there's a lot of Flea (RHCP) or Charles Mingus going on here, depending on whether it's the electric or the double out of the case.

Here's 2 of the greatest singing together in a great song!
