WWI paint colour and rigging

Hi All

In an effort to get myself back into the hobby, I've committed a cardinal sin and brought a wingy thing... more specifically a Academy 1/72 Sopwith Camel.

What I was wondering if anyone can tell me a colour that is close to that green that they seemed to paint these things, and also a good reference on how to apply rigging to a WWI biplane?

Thanks all in advance

Rob

Hi Rob,

as long it gets you back to building it is cool with me ;)

Aircraft Resource Center is where I'll tell you to go first.

http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/

look at Bi-Plane rigging in the Tools N tips part of the site

Hope it gets you going.

Might want to check out the goings on over at Swanny's Forum. They have setup a WWI Sig Group.

There are rumblings of a Wingnutwings GB there, and I've been asked about the same here. Maybe the modeling gods will allow me to do one build for two GBs...

You being in NZ I figured you would get on your Mate, Peter Jackson and his Wingnutwings kits.

In Large Scale Planes http://www.largescaleplanes.com/ there are 2 WNW Biffy builds going on. Thats where I'll look when I start mine.

As to paint, Life colours makes a set for WWI a/c and I also saw a Valejo set on ebay for WWI a/c.

James which Wingnut do you have, when do you think you'll start?

I just did it!

The Sopwith Pup of course.

Thank you both, MP and James.

I will look into both leads.

MP: As for getting into Wingnut kits.. they are too rich for my blood mate lol. Although that Gotha they are going to release one day may sway me... but will see what the price is going to be first lol.

Thank you both again

Rob

I have the Bristol Brisfit

Just waiting for a parcel to arrive with my 110 D and books on the Brisfit, Mosquito, and Harrier. Then I might look at building it.

You didn't get the terminals?

Why this wire James? What is the difference or the necessity to use this as oppose to wire that is in our stock?

the F.2b was my second, just wanted to get one of the cheaper ones first.

James,

I sent Mike (over at LSP) my Eduard decals for both the Brisfish and Crocodile. He plans to make 1/32nd scale decals.

Sorry MP, missed this last night. I got the kit from a fellow on LSP along with the pe and a decal sheet for an very good price.

As for the pe wire, it is slim line just like the real think. Rigging wire wasn't round and although fish line works easier this pe better represents the real thing. It comes in different sizes as the rigging also came in different sizes. Radu gives a ref to a book on rigging British a/c but it is almost imposable to find. So for this scale I'll give it a try. As for the terminals I saw a way to make them somewhere which I might try.

Good stuff, be prepared to share my friend. Knowledge, not the PE, I'll let some myself. :;

B) DidI hear WINGNUTS?
I have the lot- just got to build one. Can't wait for the Gotha and the Fokker D7. They would have to be some of the best models I have seen. The instructions are a work of art and they are the same price as Roden.
I will probably do an Albatros V first. :silly:

Sorry as well Rob.

James, I'll post photos when I get my samples. Funny thing is I don't even own one of the large scale Brisfits. I have held off buying them until I see the decals as these are the only sharkmouth/animal markings I have seen on the type. If I buy the kits, then what do I do with the Eduard kits? Or should I keep the Eduard kits and sell off the decals... decisions, decisions...

Regards,

If you use the "Invisible thread" for the rigging use the one called "Dark" as it is a smoke colour and saves you painting the thread to represent wire. :woohoo:
Cheers.
