I found a box of stuff I was given at a club meeting many years ago and TWO bags full of these parts were in it. The piece at the top right is the assembled version, not sure where the keg lid comes in. There's a note in one of the bags that says "spike cans and fire lids". Okay know-it-alls, here's your chance!

Model railroad parts. Spike cans (also called kegs) contain, believe it or not, railroad spikes. They come in 50, 100 & 200 lb sizes. The lid is for a 55 gal fire barrel, standard 55 gal drum with the top removed and filled with water. These were often placed on platforms on wood trestle bridges along with a 4 gal bucket.

Cheers,
Rich
