Vulcan 1/35 Zundapp (Weather up)

ausf

Master at Arms
Stealing time inbetween other projects while things dried, I managed to piece together a Vulcan Zundapp kit.

It's really an excellent kit. There was a bit of flash, nothing major, but the parts are well engineered and the model fits perfectly. I won't follow the build order in the directions on the next one, some finer details are directed to be aded too soon and it becomes hard to assemble the frame without damaging something.

All the details added except the control cables were in the box, so it really makes for a nice kit. The seat springs are a nice touch and the pre-bent spokes are much easier to put together than other PE versions.

It's in basecoat of Panzer Grey. From this point on, it'll be brush painted, then covered in dirt, grime and mud.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like it.

It really is a nice kit. The only alterations I did beside the cable was open the headlight and undercut the flaps on the saddle bags.

If you're careful during the build, it goes together perfectly. The wheels even turn post assembly. Leaps and bounds ahead of the old BMW R75 Tamiya kit.

Great job Ausf!

I have the same kit with the juice-squeezer side car, been looking forward to building it.

The tires don't end up with much tread on them, eh?

Thanks Tom,

I've got that one and the 800 too. I figured I'd practice on this one first. The tires do have tread, well at least they can in more capable hands. The tires go together as a sandwich with the PE spoke rings in the middle. I did the rear tire first using glue very sparingly, but on the front one I gooed it up good. So the lack of tread is courtesy of my Xacto. I'm planning on putting this wheels deep in mud, so it's okay.

I just ordered the MB bicycle, Eduard kit for the Tamiya BMW and I have the Voyager kit for it too so I'll have a little side by side of the three Vulcans and two Tamiya Ams. Though from experience the Voyager spokes while beautifully light are very difficult to pull off without ruining.

Looks like the real deal. (y)

Keep up the good work. Looking forward to more.

Thanks guys.

Got first stage of weather on it. This is what I consider the dry part. Once it's set in the base, I'll go with the fresh wet stuff.

First up, gas tank and seat detail, rear seat not being used:

Looks real good! (y) Might I make a slight suggestion? It might look a little better to add a bit more mud to the foreward edge of them saddle bags.

Thanks Ed.

I didn't think there would be much splatter there since it would be shielded by the rider's legs. Especially those big rubber suits they wore.

But I haven't been on a dirt bike in 30 years, so I'm no expert on it. :D

Yeah, partly shielded by rider's legs but, still the lower & outer edge would get coated pretty good. Been at least 30 for me too!

I hope there's a mini wash rack being built in conjunction with this bike :woohoo:

And there's more mud coming ? :hmmm Wow 1

Cheers, Christian B)
