Tribute to SGT Russell Fant, KIA in Vietnam 3 February 1969

JamesOLeary

Master at Arms
This is a vignette that I made for a friend of mine, Sharon Bloszko Swift, who was the fiance of SGT Russell Fant of C Company, 2d Battalion, 47th Infantry (Mechanized), 9th Infantry Division who was Killed in Action on 3 February 1969 in Long An Province, Vietnam when his M113 hit a mine which killed him and four other Soldiers.

I post my work on a FB page for members of 2d Battalion 47th Infantry Past and Present and Sharon had commented on one of the dioramas and asked if I knew her fiance, Russ. After talking with her, I told her that I could make a memorial piece if she'd like, and she did, so this is what I made. The figure is a conversion of the Animal Mother figure from Full Metal Jacket made by Evolution Miniatures. The head is from Hornet which Sharon chose from several that I thought had similar facial features as Russ. I sculpted the jungle shirt and the pockets on the trousers. The helmet is from Bravo 6 with a pack of cigarettes that I sculpted. The wedgie of the M113 is from Black Dog. The tracks are from DEF Models.

Some details to note are Sharon's name on the side of the vehicle, her name written on Russ' helmet cover, Winston cigarettes which is the brand he smoked, and a photo of Sharon in his hand which is a scaled down version of an actual photo of her. In these photos are various angles of the vignette to highlight some of the details, two pictures of Russ, and the photo of Sharon.

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,

Thanks, Guys.

Sharon really likes it. Now I just need to figure out a way to get it to her without it getting damaged in transit.
