We were detailed to a job on the Iowa National Guard post, Camp Dodge, here at home. After we got done, I indulged myself, just a bit, with my customary "Whatcha Doin'?!?" and Top-kick Jeff Chandler, proceeded to tell me in great detail, what his Troopers were up to. I truly was interested in what was going on. :soldier

They had the power-pack (12 cylinder, diesel, 750 HP engine and Allison monster transmission) out of a desert tan M88A1 Recovery Vehicle. I called it a "Tank". I showed my ignorance. Mr. Chandler shifted to "Training Mode" and instructed me. New fuel lines, gate valves, and check valve.

I figured you don't see the M88A1, without her power-pack very often, so for the most detail-oriented of you, I got these detail pictures!

Mr. Chandler tells me the engine makes 750 HP @ 2800 RPM, yielding a vehicle speed of 32 mph. She's a 56 ton US Army wrecker, and that impressed even me! This one had a faulty injector, and caused a piston failure in this cylinder. It BROKE! Bad Broken Bad!!

Piston BROKEN! Yeah Man!!

Thanks Rhino! I know you were excited so I hope you don't mind that I cleaned up the misspellings.

Regards,

The Iowa Guard M88A1's are getting some updates. Headlamps, a new battle field Data link/GPS system. The workbench/bunk/dozer blade has been unchanged. She can still lift 90,000 lbs with the proper rigging, and suspension blocks :zen :soldier

I'm dismayed, personally to find the M88A1 has no name. The M88A2 is called "Hercules" and we found 2 of them on the Post. SEE!!! My job isn't always this fun or interesting, but it was Thursday
