The Myth Busters

Greetings Guys, & Gals;

... I was surfing the other day, and ran across this one ...


I am sure by now most people are aware of the TV Seres "The Myth Busters"
.... For one of there new shows, They where at The Royal Weapon Facility
in Dover, England.

..... The myth subject was. In the 18th, and 19th century, What kind of cannon
shot was the most effective, and created the most damage. They got there
answer, But, not quit the way they envisioned.




For those unfamiliar with artillery for the 1700, and 1800, these pics should
help.













Ammo, and projectiles.









..... Back to the story. After shooting Grape-Shot, Nails and other assorted pieces
of Iron. The guys decided to try a sold-Shot, or the standard cannon ball.
The cannon is shooting cross range at some trash barrels full of water.

..... The shot is set up, the primer, was primed, and the round was fired.
Big boom..... Every one is jumping up and down with excitement. Whooooooos
the round sail about 3 feet above the trash barrels....... :woohoo:
About this time the cannon ball leaves the range, cross a 2 lanes of traffic
and smashes it way through a mans house, him and his wifes bed room, they where
both in bed when the projectile went through there room, and exited. They showed
4, or 5 inch hole where the ball exited his house.

..... The cannon ball continues on. Goes across 2 more lanes of traffic and touches
down for the first time close to the medium. The ball bunches of the road surface
and takes flight again. This time it hits another Dover's mans front door, goes
through the hose znd exits through the patio doors.

..... About this time the owner of the house had return with his new SUV. Parking
it on the driveway, and was walking up the sidewalk to thee house when the Canon
ball exited his glass patio doors crashing into the rear window of the new SUV.
The projectile still had retained enough energy to destroy the interior of the
vehicle. After watching his new SUV get destroyed he looked into the rear of the
vehicle and the ball, still in good shape was sitting there.

..... Mean while the community was fully awake, and the police where everywhere.

..... The Myth Busters show has been canceled, pending a hearing into the case.


****** Believe it or not....... nobody was hurt by the runaway cannon ball....
Several people had damage to the property, including furnishing, and a
destroyed SUV. ******

To the best of my knowledge it is.......


the TV station that recorded it had pictures of a big hole where
the cannon passed thew the wall of the guys bed room.

At the second house they showed the Dover mans wood front door,
and his destroyed SUV on the car port.

I find it increasable that no one was hurt, or hit by the round......

Yep Mats, it's true. Well most of it. the numerous reports I have read didn't say anything about a brand new SUV, the owner of the car was not the occupant of the house.

Errant 'Mythbusters' cannonball hits California home

The Mythbusters has not be canceled, I watched it last night.

Maybe someone will model the minivan with the window smashed out. :idonno

It is amazing, they say it bounced a few times during its trip through the neighborhood. One can only wonder what kinda stuff is flying around a battlefield with several of these pointing at each other!

the bouncing was a part of the strategy with those cannons, they made more damage that way, in the battle of waterloo that didn't work because of the muddy fields, so the cannonballs just hit the mud and stayed there without causing the expected damage to the english army.
I'm glad noone got hurt, and i guess now it will be a legal process about this, but i hope it mythbusters will continue.

Not cancelled

. Adam Savage tweeted that the show hasn't been canceled or suspended. It was an unfortunate accident and they'll take more precautions to make sure nothing like that ever happens again, but they have insurance for stuff like that and it's not like anyone was hurt.

One of the best shows in TV history in my opinion.

To cancel it would be ludicrous

I agree, I would hate to see this show end - even after its run it's course it is damn good TV and some twits will bastardize it into a 'comedy/stand around and gape at what others say' show (look at all the spinoffs Ghosthunters has inspired and its still on the air).

Love Mythbusters, they have made a career off of what I wanted to do when i was a kid!
