Sherman 18
Master at Arms
I started this build for the Tamiya group build on the Sherman-Shop site. Thought I would share what I've done so far. The kit is an Ebay purchase, Armor Research barrel, Archer casting numbers and symbols, On The Mark PE, parts from Formations, Grandt Line bolts and some mix of parts from the parts box. I'm thinking 11th Armor but not set on that yet.
I plugged the tool mount holes on the upper hull with stretch sprue
cut some sheet styrene for the missing cheek armor
did some shaping of the styrene with my figures, stuck it on and then realized I just did not get the shape right. So I took the saw to it to force into shape (kinda like you do when you chop a top on a car).
After some filing and putty looked pretty good
Started to make the casting texture (3M automotive spot putty mixed with Testors cement) I tried to add in some casting seams and such with the putty using tape to help give me a "lip."
Turret starting to come together
I was not intent on adding the missing parts to the lower hull, but then thought I would give it a try
drilled hole for the missing bolts and then added Grandt line bolts
Did some casting texture to the transmission housing and also added Archer casting numbers and symbols
Started to add some welds to the upper hull with styrene strip, and added texture to the cast pieces and to the flat steel plate
