With the cost of modeling paint, I decided to start my Ki-46 kit and used the leftover paint from the Ki-84 build. Got a start this AM on cockpit and main gear wells. Gary S.

I've always liked the lines of this, thought it would have been a great Reno Racer.

I remember back in the 80's when I lived in Tulsa, there was a guy in the Tulsa club that made his own Vac kit of this and built it. I loved the lines of this plane.

Me too, and it's not a very big aircraft. It has just about the same wing span of the P-38.

A most enjoyable build and it's finally finished. I've read several articles that said, " Japan kept building the Zero because it had nothing else to offer". I totally disagree as they had the Frank, George and Jack, just not enough planes, pilot's and fuel. Pictured with the Ki-84 "Frank" is the Kawanishi N1k2 "George" and Mitsubishi J2M "Jack". The George has the markings of the one that is in the USN Pensacola Museum. These planes could give our planes a run for their money. Opps!! I just notice some touch up required under the sliding canopy. Gary S.

Except for the compass and radio loop antenna, the cockpit is finished. The instrument panel is hand painted. I had to make the RPM bar gauge and make a few more levers out of straight pins to complete things that were left out of the kit. Brass seat belts were added also. The fit of the fuselage is perfect. I'm living up to my Dad's edict, "Do it the hard way Schmidt". Don't do what I did and glue the lower wing half to the fuselage before gluing the upper half first. It will fit better without elbow grease applied to get proper alignment. Other that the fit is perfect including the tail planes. I thought the landing gear might be a problem, but that fit is great also. Only a small amount of sanding is needed. So far so good. Gary S.

This is a really nice job, great detail. I have never tried this model although I have one in 1/72 of course. Will look forward to your completion of this model. Congratulations.

I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. Last week was kinda hectic. We travelled to Paris Island for my grandson's graduation from USMC's boot camp. He is the first Marine in the family. Mine was all Army going back to the Civil War and my wife's goes back to the Revolutionary War except for her dad who was Air Force.
Had a problem with placing the rear most canopy because the ring bulkhead sat up too high. Don't know how that happened. I used a pencil to reinforce the ring and scraped it down some. The decals were a little bit a problem. The red meatball without the white came apart and had to be put back together and didn't respond well to setting solutions. After that, I was moving along ok till I did the black oil sludge wash and some of the paint came off. I didn't want to drag out the airbrush just for that, so I decided to start the Se5a kit, which is going to be the same color and the paint color was already mixed. So Dianah was put on hold in the meantime. Gary S.
