Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen: Scratch 1/35

I will try to scrachtbuild this armoured loco, using Revell/Dragon's model as reference

http://www.track-link.net/gallery/1503

I started the easiest part, the armored sheets

DSCN5181.jpg

This is my "aftermarket" material; as you can see, almost all comes from the pharmacys where I've works some time ago :)

DSCN5182.jpg

This is my main worries: the vents grills.
At the left are the 2 first prototypes, in plastic. The last is the paper prototype that will be transfered to copper sheet

DSCN5188.jpg

This is the first grill...it just left ....11 to build

DSCN5189.jpg

I made it in 2 parts

Well, more updates next year

Re:Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen - Scracht 1/35

¿Estas practicando su arte? ¡Muy bien hecho!

Excellent way to keep ones scratch-building skills...

Re:Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen - Scracht

Nice one Dario! (y)

Will you scratching the railway tracks as well? Or "cheating" with Trumpeter tracks? If the former, what size I-beams are you planning to use?

Rudi :)

Re:Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen - Scracht

Hola Dario!!

Nice to see you rolling your sleeves and doing some real modeling.

Good work so far, you have your work cut out for you on the vents. I think plastic is the way to go on those. Maybe make a frame and cut strips for the vents, it will be faster.

Re:Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen - Scracht 1/35

Thanks guys! I count with your support in this proyect ! :)

Rudi, I planned to use wood H beams for the tracks, as I made for my Hornisse:

http://s88.photobucket.com/albums/k182/panzerjager_2006/Hornisse/

I´ve still not buyed it, so, I don´t remember the measures; when I come back to home in jan 5 (I´m in hollidays in Brasil) I will continue with this proyect

Thanks to all for the visit

Re:Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen - Scracht 1/35

Well, I back to the "hard work"

I made some little advances

The wheels, made with pasticard
DSCN5474.jpg

And painted

DSCN5476.jpg

The mufflers and a failed hook  (the upper is the original)

Re:Steyr Schienenpanzer Artilleriewagen - Scracht 1/35

I has to broke all the chassis parts, due to a mistake in measurements  So, I re-start the proyect with the hull

I add the 2 front lights, made with parts of Demag D7 and aluminum discs

DSCN5490.jpg

DSCN5491.jpg

DSCN5492.jpg

DSCN5493.jpg

Some details added; the grey parts are from the Revell sSP Artilleriewagen. I made a mold with epoxi 2 components putty for the nuts, then I made the nuts with melted plastic sprue

I'm really liking this idea, Dario! I especially like your approach to scratch building, thank you for sharing with us! B)

Dankeshön kameraden

DSCN5510b.jpg

DSCN5512.jpg

DSCN5513.jpg

Well, some updates. I've received some spare parts from a friend (Gracias Huguito!) and other friend gives me parts of the Pz III turret (Gracias Diegote!)

I made some copies os the air intakes caps, using latex as moulding and dental acrilic for the parts

DSCN5664.jpg

Turret, still in progress

DSCN5691.jpg

I made the tiny drain holes for the commander's cupola, using a .3 mm drill bit

DSCN5693.jpg

Turret requires some welding, so I made it using stretched sprue melted with toluen

As it look today

More updates, before I take a break to continue my Sd.Kfz. 7/1

Cupola hatches; the upper one is from Dragon's Pz III L/M:

In place:

DSCN5710-1.jpg

With an "H" shaped pine wood strip, I made the rails:

In place, with balsa railroad tie (sleepers)

Superb work Dario , I wish I could get that H shaped wood here , is it from the Ship model accessory section ?

The train looks great :)

Jenny

Dankeshön, Jenny. In Argentina it was selled in architectural or Radio Control stores, at €1 for 1 meter strip. I took the measures from the rail that comes with the Dragon/Revell panzerzüge

I love a great scratchbuilding project, and this one is no exception! Excellent job, and a great subject! :)
Steven

Thanks Steven

Well, I'm tired of scrachtbuilding, so...I started to add some "living things" to this scene

Scene original idea

The yellowed figures are Tristar PzGren. Vol.1; the Pz Komm. is from Dragon and the dog from Tamiya
