What kind of paint and decal softener did you use?
I have found that over enamel paints I can use Solvaset in my airbrush with "very low" air pressure and spray Solvaset into the decal while it is setting (with a little Solvaset underneath) and starting in the center and working out force it into the paint itself. No silvering even over flat paint. (enamels only)

Keeping it in the fridge saved it no doubt, mine was not, I'm using Solvaset now.
