Road wheel masks

Well then............It seems it finally sunk through my thick,fat head,I do not paint road wheels as well as I used to. ldguy So I looked at some road wheel masks on Ebay. I have seen two types over there.

The sticky type. That's the one that looks to me like a masking tape. How many uses would I get before the adhesive wore out?


The metal or plastic type. How well does that type work? It looks like you cover the rubber part of the wheel up,then spray the body color onto the road wheel. I am worried that paint may seep into a part where you do not want it to.

The easiest way I know of is to get a circle template (I like Staedtler). Then paint the road wheel black or rubber coloured. When dry hold the wheel in the right sized hole and spray the center the colour you need. Works a treat.
Second method is to paint wheel the colour yopu want. Then when dry use something like valejo dark rubber. Add water to the paint in a small cup or beer cap and then touch to the rubber road wheel. Because it is thinned it will go artound the center and give you a line not to go over when you keep painting. Because its so thinned it is easy to wipe up a miss stroke before it dries.
