Review: Meng Model's VsKfz 617

The latest offer from Meng Model is this one - VsKfz 617. Priced at $48.99 plus $ 9.19 shipping from HK to Thailand. Just got it today:

Each track link is heavy because it has metal block inside. This may be the reason why this kit is more than double the price of 4x4 Pick Up truck from the same company:

Have fun! :)

Nice little review (y) (y) I know the schemes are just projected as it never saw operational use, but which one are you going for? Also are the feet metal encased plastic or do you have to install a plug in them, either way what an interesting idea. Thanks for sharing this and cant wait to see it built up.
James

Thanks for your kind comments, James! I think I'll go for the first or second scheme, either sand color or sand color with green stripes. The feet are metal encased in plastic, I don't have to do anything. Just wonder how did they do it because the plastic has no joint. The only way to see what's inside is to break the plastic encasement. I give it high priority in my build list, not by me but by "Art Instructor" my main modeler. Hope to show it finished sometime next month.

Hi,

The way it was done was to suspend the metal piece magnetically on two rods into the mold (those are the two indentations on the inner side of the tracks. It is a multi-part mold and the seam is on the edges of the inner side where you should see some light flash.

By the way, Terry has a full build review:
