Here is what I am working on at the moment

Actually a pretty nice kit if you are into the more modern stuff, absolutely no interior so I just painted the innards gloss black and moved forward from there

The fit is pretty decent, but the rear decking does sit a little proud as it was glued into place, I should've looked around at pics a bit earlier or I would've put a bit more effort into removing the seems as apparently there aren't any, oh well. It should look alright under a coat of paint and I have filled them in with some Mr. surfacer so they don't show as much

One other thing I did do was to add a shim as the lower chassis is a touch short of the rear bulkhead just to help keep things tightly glued in place as the lower chassis did need a bit of upward pressure to line up. The instructions would have build the the upper and lower halves as separate assemblies to be glued together near the end, but after looking things over I think it is better to glue the body together first and add all the bits later starting with the running gear.

Although the wheels are designed to be able to turn, I don't normally worry about that to much so I was just going to glue them all together and put them on later, but according to the instructions they are handed, and in that the parts are designed in such a way that they will only go together as 2 separate sets. For a while there I couldn't really see any difference between them to justify that, but really looking very closely I finally found the difference is in the lugs, they are directional, which is hardly discernible.

The wheels themselves are a 3 piece affair which go together very nicely and do look the part.

Since this is my first(and probably not last) Nato vehicle, I don't have any colours for the scheme. Now I've looked around a bit and there really isn't much on the subject as far as model paints go, so what would be recommended as a fairly decent match. I have a mixture of various manufacturers in my collection so if I have something near enough I might use them.

This is the vehicle I'm building
KFORABC.png

From what I gather this one was deployed in Afghanistan? the instructions give the option of using the KFOR or ISAF decals so I'm a bit confused, If there is any more information about this vehicle I'd greatly appreciate it.

and just a bit of an update, got the body pretty much finished just have to get the headlight cutouts in place and then it's off to the fiddly bits

and after another look around the internet I finally found a good pic of the roof and........well they are separate plates, so I cleaned out the seems.

Got the wheels 2/3s together so thats out of the way for now and assembled the rear props. By looking at the parts break down it looks like they are designed to be able to be rotated and the propellers spin, I don't think that that would work out very well in the end so everything is glued solid, according to the pics I've found so far the propellers face forward when no in use so that's how they are set. The props are also handed for those who care, I just followed the instructions.........

Wish I could help you Tim, I'm clueless about NATO modern stuff, I'm clueless about most of this stuff. Really like how those wheels go together so we can get the knobby treads working, looks like it would be fun to have playing in the mud.

The KFOR vehicle was used in KOSOVO[Europe] and would have the standard NATO colors of green, brown and black[Tamiya has those standard NATO colors in acrylic paint]

The ISAF vehicle is indeed used in Afghanistan. The German Bundeswehr nowadays uses a paint scheme in Afghanistan with tan, brown, grey colors....but it could have been that this vehicle still used the NATO colors before the new colors where introduced.

Looking forward to the next steps. :popcorn

Greetings,Ron.

Thanks Ron, I very much appreciate the info. I'll probably pick up the Tamiya paints, but from what gather they are not "quit right" for German produced vehicles, I'm still looking into that.

I pooched it, as you can see in the lat pictures the part that hold the headlights is sitting beside/on the body. Well they are supposed to be attached on the inside before you put the body together :bang head , and then I lost the passenger side piece after I decided to open up the drivers side and insert it through the enlarged hole. I have no idea what I'm going to do at the moment so it's on hold until I figure something out.

I had the same problem when I tried to build my first Fuchs. I think I ended up ditching the kit. I hope you will be able to fix that. The second go around worked better. If you are looking for a good picture selection go to www.Panzer-Modell.de. They are all about modern german military vehicles.

As far as the paint scheme goes, Ron is right. In Kosovo they used the regular 3-color Nato came, while in Afghanistan they initially used the same camo since Germany didn't have a designated desert camo. So some vehicles in the beginning could have had troop applied camo where the black and or brown was kept and the green overpainted wth a sand color. At one point I had a reference somewhere as for what colors are used in the desert camo. Let me see if I can still find that.

Hey thanks for the links, I hope to do some more so that is very helpful and I have book marked them. I'm still trying to figure something out and I'm sure I'll come up with something eventually. At least now I don't feel so alone in the universe with my mistake.
Cheers :drinks

It is , it's just that the instructions can be a bit confusing in spots (at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it :D )
