Here's the base kit...

Going for the scheme for Andrew Turner's 100th FS bird...painted the interior a nice shade of interior green and the dashboard I treated like a instrument panel- using some Mike Grant gauges...I will take some pics once things dry.

For the main body start- I have the gloss black on...

Trying to decide where the cutoff for the red tail should be-- at the top of the rear window-- or should I slant it onto the roof some-- suggestions? I plan on painting the front fender red and using the same style as seen on the front of Turner's plane:

We'll see ;)

What a cool idea Jeeves. Had a mustang myself once when I was young. wish I would have thought of this back then. :D

Just for kicks I played around a bit and this is the one i liked best.

Whoa- that's cool Dave! Hmm...I wonder if that bit if red is stark enough though. That is a great way to play around and see what I really want to do though- how'd you do that??

With Photoshop. Mask off an area you want on a new layer and fill it with the paint bucket tool on 40% opacity.

Interesting :good: I think I would go with a little more vivid red though .

Will the front get some red as well ?

Cheers, Christian B)

Great idea. (y)

On the right side picture looks like you have some edges that need some paint :salute

Yup- this is just the primer coat- the front and back are getting sprayed with Guards Red as soon as I decide how far I am going with it. The middle parts will get Airframe Aluminum which is where the black coat is important...

Interior is just about complete....going the body more time to cure before I start masking-- still a strong scent of lacquer ;)

Got the first coat of red on-- I think I'll need another to offset the black base...but for now- I am happy with how it looks-

And some shots of the engine and panel....my camera is showing it's age and the battery seems shot...which is a shame as I love the Easyshare...still need to add wiring-

Sprayed the Alclad II Airframe Aluminum today-- it looks dusty but I'll buff it up when it's set....

Thanks Dave!

I thought about doing something along the lines of the yellow wing stripe, but I don't think I can mask over this particular Alclad color...plus with the decals it'll stand out enough...

Mike I love your mustang ... I've seen a mustang done in this scheme somewhere before ... Ford also did one, just suggesting that the red on the back goes at a forty five slanted backward like a P-51 tail and panel lines & rivets with some wing guns on the side you would nail this thing. Search for the Ford car & you will really be inspired, I like your interior green ideal that is where this ideal will shine. .... :hmmm :popcorn

Thanks all!

Gerry-- I've already started the decals so unfortunately that would be a no go....but good advice nonetheless ;)

That's ok I just got very excited with the project ... Being as how my 65 needs work ... I'm sure this will be a great build ... Carry on ... :soldier :soldier :pilot
