Shuttleworth pilot OK after Triplane crash

The aircraft, a replica of the pioneering 1910 Avro Triplane IV, came to rest in a tree in Old Warden Park after the accident.

I shouldn't laugh but the guy was unharmed and its a scene straight out of the film really. what other plane could you land in a tree and walk away

Glad the guy was ok. A long time ago a guy landed a Cessna in a palm tree and survived down in Rockledge Florida. Gary S.

Thing was probably doing just 10kt over the wind speed to start with. Wouldn't be a trip to fly one of these things with more modern engines?

After skim reading through the article, it turns out the plane was built for the movie "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines". It also only flew at about 45 miles an hour.

One can see, if you zoom in, that the cup (holding the huge testicles needed to fly this contraption) came loose causing them to swing and the aircraft lost lateral control and altitude. With his testicle catching branches, nothing but landing the aircraft in that tree could have been the outcome. Of course, he gave a thumbs up!
