Expansion and contraction just like on the hull. It's more about the changes of temp and the density of the metals than pressure.

Several factors can contribute to oil canning. Thermal expansion/contraction through the day, memory in the material due to stresses induced during manufacture, the size and thickness of the panels, improper installation of the panels, the support structure not being in-plane, the panels being twisted or bent during transport or installation and movement of the ship's structure from wave action, cargo shifting and machinery vibrations.

All I can say is that is one VERY busy ship.
Build the hull in a week.
Take the next 6-8 months to do all the superstructure and STUFF.

I had to read to find the name of this ship as it looked familiar.
Fun fact, my ship, the USS Canopus (AS-34), relieved the Simon Lake in Kings Bay GA in 1985. I was part of the ship's company (did not work on subs...well...once I did) as an IC5. I stayed on the Canopus until discharged in 1987. My daughter was the first baby born in St. Mary's hospital after it reopened to accommodate the Navy influx. We got a steak dinner out of that!
2nd fun fact...my wife Gail was kicked off of a submarine tied up alongside us while she was on a private tour (her best friend was wife of boat cook) when she noticed the light for the missiles was lit for green and pointed it out to the captain and asked "Are there really armed missiles on this boat ready to fire with us on here?". She was escorted off the boat immediately and asked not to return. She is wiser now...
