Expansion and contraction just like on the hull. It's more about the changes of temp and the density of the metals than pressure.

Several factors can contribute to oil canning. Thermal expansion/contraction through the day, memory in the material due to stresses induced during manufacture, the size and thickness of the panels, improper installation of the panels, the support structure not being in-plane, the panels being twisted or bent during transport or installation and movement of the ship's structure from wave action, cargo shifting and machinery vibrations.Why would you get Oil Canning up there? I can understand the hull, but not on the superstructure.,

I believe they are practically identical, no? Isn't the Canopus a "Simon Lake Class" tender? Seeing the silo covers on this model reminded me, I was one of two IC techs authorized to enter the missile room, which was eye opening for sure. Dang those things are big. We were always very closely guarded by a marine. Do NOT F*#K with the marines LOL. I saw the results of those who tried more than once. It did not work out well for their noses. Sorry to hijack...the model just brought back memories from eons ago.It seems superfluous to mention that the USS Canopus and USS Simon Lake are close sisters.
