Model Motorcars Ltd

Model Motorcars Ltd website was down when I tried to access it over the last few days.
Reason being that they went into voluntary dissolution on March 18th 2026 after trading for 25 years plus.
Why is not known to this poster.
The company specialised in tutorial books, CD's and after market improvement parts for the old Rivarossi and current Hornby Pocher car kits.

Too bad. I have several of the old Pocher car kits and had intended on buying some of their upgrades. I guess it is time to finally release those kits to the wild.

Heavens Eagle. I have a Pocher original Mercedes kit and a Rolls 'Bitsa' ( radiator. chassis, engine and running gear etc.) that would offer a parts scratch build opportunity.
Cannot get the enthusiasm to build either though !
What Pochers do you have also to release to the wild out of curiosity?

I have the red Alpha Romeo race car, the 540 Mercedes, and the Rolls Royce coupe. Had more but I sold them years ago. The kits are complete and unbuilt. The Mercedes box is a little the worse for wear, but all the parts are inventoried and accounted for.

Been trying to sell my 2 Pochers I described and trying to find a UK buyer.
Generated no interest so far. Might just stick the stuff into an auction to get rid !

Well now we know what happened.

Pity they have now gone. They carried some really nice upgrade stuff for the old and new Pocher kits.
Hopefully another company might take on the stock and make it available again, but who knows?

I sounded out Marshall Buck of Creative Miniature Associates about it they had any interest in obtaining Model Motorcars stock for resale. He was aware of Marvin Meit's recent death in December 2025.
His response was that CMA has no interest in selling after market parts for kits either now or in the future.

The site still exists, but is basically inert. I have several older Pocher kits, but am not looking forward to dealing with them. Might just go ahead and sell them. I have so many other kits to build that I will probably enjoy more.

Thanks for the feedback Eagle.
I too have a couple of old Pochers. A complete Mercedes and the remnants of a Rolls Royce enough to build a rolling chassis. Might just stick them into a local auction to get rid of as a job lot !

Pochers have become a victim of the E-bay rip off scam where the values artificially increased over time. People see a £200 item listed at £400 and assume theirs is worth £400 so they list it at £450. its a spiral upwards with each new listing. We saw it with Wingnut wings .We still see it with old Protar kits and with new MFH kits, I used to deal in vintage motorcycles spares and i watched the prices rocket on ebay. its a small world in my business so i knew what was listed and who was listing it. People would list something on ebay worth £100 for £400 then again after a week they would leave the old listing at £400 and then re list it as well at £295 and it would sell almost straight away, suddenly it was a bargain. Then cancel the £400 listing. if you followed the items like i did daily you could see exactly what was going on with the same dealers week after week.
I also follow Protar kits on the UK, easy live auction site which is open to the public but well used by dealers. the other week guy sold a collection of 15-20 protar motorcycles, many duplicate, new in boxes, i think they went for £350 ish . the very next day they were on Ebay at between £150 and £180 each . the guy even downloaded the pictures from the Auction site and used them again on ebay, he paid £350 and the ebay price would have bought him in about £2000.
What then happens is the market collapses and people are left with some very expensive items that are worth a fraction of what they paid for them and the dealers move on to another product.
