Mini Drill Press recommendation

Can anyone or everyone give a recommendation for a good mini drill press. All in one would be good. Small footprint, precise, INEXPENSIVE a must.
I can not drill with my tiny carbide drill bits so I have to get a drill press. I have an old dremel one but the newer dremels and motorcraft don't fit in it. Lastly it has to be variable speed and able to go slow.
So if anyone can help me find something I would appreciate it.
James

I have this one.

Works good both for big and small things, haven't tried it with the microdrill but it should work, high low gear and variable speed

James, you seem to have the same trouble as I. I snap the drills too often.

I ended up buying a new Dremel with a drill stand:

I made myself a foot pedal speed control using a rheostat. If you can't be bothered making it, here is a ready one:

The old Dremel received a flexible shaft and is hung from a hook. This was to replace my Foredom model which is too expensive to fix.

Anyway, I still snapped a carbide bit with the drill as the torque is too great and would continue the twist when the bit snagged.

Regards,

I got the same thing from Dremal but find it too flimsy, the mount holes are not standard size for drill press vises, or at least where i can figure it out.

Mats your link is coming up with a 403 error, forbidden! Looks like you're pointing to this.

And it doesn't look like we can get it over here! :bang head

Thanks guys. Matts that one looks like its $400 US. A bit too much for me. I think I might have found something. Thanks Saul and Bob. Another option for me.
James

Yes that's the one :) sorry for the bad link and i think i paid around €300 for it here.

I like it because you can use it for bigger things to not just modeling.

Glad to hear that you found something James :good:

I have that same drill press, but need to get a new dremel for it, the old one I had that fit in it gave out quite awhile ago, and I've never replaced it.

Wnated to set mine up w/ a rheostat on it to control the rpm of the dremel, but have always heard that to do that, you have to make sure you've got the single speed model. If you try it w/ a multispeed version, you run a decent chance of burning out the motor.

This is the one I have, is it te same as yours Bob?

Really? I thought that as long as one leaves it at the highest speed (the multi-speed models) and don't change it while it is on, there shouldn't be a problem with using a rheostat.

I honestly don't know, that's just what I heard from our electrical guru in the model club I'm in, and it was several years ago. He did a show & tell thing several years ago on how to put together a rheostat for something like that and he said to only use a single speed unit b/c a variable speed could get burnt out.

I really dont have much to worry about here because I went cheap and got this off of ebay. Its a shengxuan dushu wan. came with all the accessories for $40.00 shipped. The press I won for 22.00

I think if you leave the on tool switch wide open and us the foot switch you'll be ok, unless it's a XPR400 which is prone to smokin' pretty soon. Read that Dremal just replaces them with the latest when you send them in for warranty.
