IPMS Glue Brothers Mark Johnson and Kevin Iuetzler's small but devoted team of model car makers put on their 4th NNL event this weekend in the sprawling metropolis of Grimes, Iowa. No, I do NOT think they are actually blood relatives! Pay attention.

We had never been to an NNL event before. Marky explained to me what it was and invited us to attend. I thought it might be nice to see some model friends still living, so we sallied forth into the sultry Iowa summer weather for the 55 mile car ride to Grimes.

The NNL space. No tracks, Wings or rotors can be entered. It is a "Show" in the truest sense. Vehicles with wheels. Only contestants vote for themed awards. Almost everyone here was happy to discuss their car model and share super-secret tips and tricks. I do like me a shiny model! Funny Car dragsters have been a life long favorite. There was a resounding "Pop" as I entered the show. I guess my NNL cherry got busted.

Vendors are allowed. A raffle is not. IPMS Glue Brothers offered "Door Prizes" and if you enter the show after you come through the DOOR, you get a ticket. See?!
Rules for churches vary.

On to the Models!!

Check the paint on the GT-500 Cobra Mustang! Even with the Snake backwards on the right fender, this finish is stunning! Virgil Stanbury's 1/87 builds seem right up my alley. :hmm:

Mark Johnson, for those of you that recall, built an AMT 1/24 1955 Chevy Cameo Pick-up that was as near to a perfect car model as I have seen.
The Deal's Wheels kits are a sampling of what Mark is up to more recently. His Camaro was tidy and mirth-promoting! The Dune Buggy is just plain fun! Look at the metal flake in the paint! Very cool!

IPMS model stalwart Frank Miller entered wheeled vehicles. "Frank's Tanks"? "Tanks, but no tanks"? :bm:

Among other friends in attendance were Ed Buckley, Dave Lentell, Bob Maloy, Nate, Tucker, and Trennis (Dr. Cooper) Stevens, and IPMS Region 14 representative Bob Delaney. Along with the Stanburys, Frank, Mark and Kevin, these are people I know by name.
My pictures, by NO means encompass all the NNL entires. There were many beautiful models.

Please understand, if I don't know your name, I mean no disrespect. Conversely, I don't know the names or faces of all IPMS Glue Brothers membership either. Again, no disrespect.

The church gym was well lit and spacious and air conditioned. The NNL environment seems more laid back than a typical IPMS contest. We had a nice visit with all the shiny (and not so shiny) car models and modelers.

No, not many of the car modelers were SHINY. What is it with you? Geezo.

"What is an NNL show?

An NNL event is a non-competitive gathering of model car builders and enthusiasts. The day's goals are to display our work, share tips and information, meet other car modelers, and most importantly making new friends and having a good time!"

The local club encourages modelers to enter anything with wheels on it. My 1/144 Kubelwagen would have been welcome. Model makers are encouraged to share tips and tricks. Mark tells me they don't have a raffle. Some conflict with what the church rules about "Gambling".

Howzatt?!
