Micro Model Month 2026

It is coming up on that time of year again. March is and always has been the MMM build month. For me this has been the only kit I finished in some years.

So as a reminder and to allow folks to figure out what kit(s) they want to build during the month of March I am putting this up as a reminder. We have 21 days until the start of March so still plenty of time to pick out your build or obtain a kit that fits within the parameters.

The Micro Modeler Month is to showcase the builds of people that usually build the smaller scales and to get others out of their comfort zone to build a smaller scale quick build. It can also give us an excuse to try something different, either a subject, or to just build a kit "Out Of the Box".

For those that are new here (or recently rejoined) the rules are simple for this group build.

The build cannot start before 12:01 am on March 1st and needs to be finished by 11:59 pm on March 31. Photos with time stamps needed for start and finish photos on the build. You can do a placeholder post with the kit before the start date, but no building till start time.

Here are the categories for kit scales to build:

1. Armor builds must be 1/48 or smaller

2. Aircraft builds must be 1/72 or smaller

3. Automotive builds must be 1/32 or smaller

4. Ship builds must be 1/700 or smaller

Note that while you could build a 1/72nd scale B-36 and it would fit into the rules, it might be quite difficult to finish that large kit even if it fits into the "small scale". Also some small scale kits could be quite involved and thus require more time to build than what you might have available within the month.

So choose wisely.

Bob can set up the forum for the MMM builds, and there is already a ribbon created.

Hope everyone joins in and we have a great turnout for 2026.

Shouldn't the finish time be 11:59 pm on March 31?

Something I have been thinking about doing to maybe get a little more participation on this group build is this. I am going to make a Quad CA, paint applicator pad that uses 4 small sapphire watch crystals. The crystals are flat and being sapphire they are super hard. This make it easy to take a razor blade and scrape the surface clean. With four crystals that are no longer useable on a watch it gives the ability to place different CA on each for dipping your applicator in the CA. In addition there will be several sets of the micro paint cups that I use for mixing small amounts of paint with thinners for airbrushing or mixing small amounts of color. They are fairly resistant to thinners and paint, and if wiped out right after pouring the paint in the airbrush they will last a long time.
I have given some of the larger single sapphire crystal CA pads to people that I have met in person. (I guess they use them :bm:)

I will place the names of any that finish MMM this year into a drawing and pick a name at random. Then I will send the package with a minimal value of $10 in case there is any tariff crap and ship it to the winner.

I will try and get the Quad pad built this week and show you all what it is.

Just a little something to encourage this along.

@Heavens Eagle, is this like the mounted sapphire crystal I got from you? If it is guys and gals, it is really nice and works well. I was using the polypropylene lids from jars but they're large and, when cut down to size, my super thin CA simply spilled off negating the reason for it. What Paul is mentioning seems fancier than what I got form him with four bezels as I l=only have one mount but it is great.

Nice Paul, thanks for this. I have one and it works like a champ!

This is exactly what Saúl (Sharkmouth) and Bob (moon puppy) are talking about. Only difference is a slightly larger piece with 4 smaller crystals and a decent pack of what I am calling micro mixing cups.
