Messerschmitt Me 509 FINISHED!!!

This is Trumpeters 1/48 scale Me 509 I recently finished.

My model was built O.O.B. and painted with Model Master enamels, I elected to use aftermarket Bf 109 decals from EagleCals instead of those from the kit since the kits national markings looked undersized.
Markings choices for the Me 509 are very limited but lucky for me the latest booklet from Squadron Signal ''The Me 509 In Action'' arrived after I started my build and I chose to mark my model as the aircraft on page 12 which is ''yellow 15'' operated by JG 53.

Very nicely done. Its a different looking fish for sure. Makes you wonder if maybe they saw the P-39 and said We can do better. Your black and whites are really cool. Love the stuff you do

Excellent model. Ugly airplane though. Interesting how the kit designer incorporated enough real aircraft design elements to end up with a fictional aircraft that is immediately recognizable as a Messerschmitt.

Don't know Rob, looks like a Dornier family aircraft. Really nice aircraft Les, don't know how you do it so well. What's that other one in the back ground?

Well it is supposed to be a paper model based on the Me 309. The Japanese also made a plane based on the Me 509 diagrams and I believe got at least 1 built.

Now that you mention it, I recall seeing photos of an experimental Japanese aircraft that had a very similar configuration.

Sinister Nazi copy of the P-39! Wonderful job, Les- those two GIs look right at home with their trophy. Hope I can get mine to look as nice!

The plane in the background is the T tail version of the Me 309, like the Me 509 the T tail 309 was never actually built.

Interesting build but reading your previous comments I wonder about the Squadron " in action book " Did this thing actually fly ? The RLM did not even like the HE 219 because it was a tricycle gear airplane.
Never mind that it was a successful interceptor. :idonno
I thought the 509 was only a paper airplane .

I was joking about the Squadron in Action book on the Me 509, no Me 509 designs were even considered for production. This Messerschmitt design I consider to be very poor and doubt it would have been airworthy, if built the thing would have been tail heavy, the engine, armament, and fuel tanks are at or near the CG with only the propeller and cockpit ahead of the CG...not quite enough to get a proper balance.

Thanks, I was worried I missed that part of aviation history. Ready to call squadron on about this " in action book" , worse yet it could have been a " walk around"
HA HA HA good to see I'm not the only one with a twisted sense of humor ! I agree with you, the CG looks seriously out of wack but they had some creative drawings on the books for sure

I should have made it clear I was joking about the Squadron Me 509 booklet...usually on my what-if builds I will post a disclaimer at the bottom of my posts to not cause any problems like this and this time I forgot. :idonno
