Hi,
I am having the pleasure to show you latest model built within Malta Collection.
Historical background
Spitfire Mk. Vb, EP706 was delivered to the RAF in July 1942 from the Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory. It was most probably among the aircraft flown to Malta off HMS Furious in August that year.
On Malta, the aircraft saw service with No. 249 Squadron. Due to scarcity of serviceable aircraft, pilot rotation was usual on Malta, and EP706 was reportedly flown both by F/O George “Buzz” Beurling, the highest-scoring Malta ace (flew this aircraft scoring four victories (19th-22th) - two Bf-109s destroyed on 25th September 1942 plus one damaged, and two again destroyed on 10th October 1942.), and Sqn/Ldr Maurice Stephens, commanding officer of No. 249 Squadron. It is probable that both these aces scored victories while flying this aircraft.
Model
I built the model being based on new tooling Airfix Spitfire Mk.Ia (1/72 scale). You can trace the entire construction process here: https://www.modelersalliance.com/forum/wesendorf-field/67587-malta-1940-43-spitfire-mkvb-recast-airfix-172
Painting made using airbrush and Agama acrylics. Wash and soiling made using MiG's Neutral Wash and Dark Wash, decals come from Italeri kit (code and s/n) rest of them are from Airfix set (traditionally put with the support of Mr. Mark Softer).
