Sorry for not replying sooner. I was away for the weekend on a family trip and have been kicking myself since for not bringing along my camera...

Anyway, it is a vent which must be important as they but bullet deflectors in front of them. Make sure you orient them correctly with the opening towards the deflector:

I have been doing some on this project. I have been forcing myself to work on the track some everytime I sit down at the bench. I can only do about 5 or six track pads at a time before my fingers cramp up.
