The kit wing decals for the P-40 were too light of a blue so they were removed. I had a darker set of blue one left over from a previous P-40 build about ten years ago.

Gary, the lighter blue is supposed to reflect the sun bleaching and correct... However, like you, I prefer to start with a 'freshly' painted insignia and fade everything accordingly instead of freshly painted top camouflage colors and overly faded stars!

Also, the underside ones were lt. blue also. I think like you that fading the darker color is the way to go and I'm going to use white oils for that. Gary S.

Gear down on the Yak and gear and flaps down on the P-40. Also did a black wash and a dry brush of white oils. Gary S.

Time for the glamor shots. I think they came out ok. Although not competitive. Those days are over for me. Good enough for me. I'm thinking about building Monogram/ Revell's F-15C and Italereri's AH1W with home made horizontal exhaust, both in 1/48th scale. Gary S.
