IN LIVING COLOR

Growing up I loved watching Victory at Sea, World At War, and reading books about World War II. Always the the picture were in black and white. In a way none of it seemed quite real sorta like watching a cartoon, but add the color and all of a sudden it is very real. The people could be some that you know. It could be you. All that stuff really did happen and it is the color that makes the connection. So with this in mind I will post some pictures that I find that show the war in color so we can get the flavor of the times, the people, and machines that made World War II

Hmmm...looking closer- the roundel behind the pilot-- but that even looks like it might be RAAF? Don't see the red unless it's hidden....

Just look at the fuel and oil stains on the deck. You can see why things got dirty.

And still do...at least on deployment. Things aren't as bad on shore where the planes aren't nearly stacked on top of each other. That also has a lot to do w/ the aggressive nature of the non-skid on modern carriers. They don't want the birds sliding around when hooked to a tractor if the boat rocks a bit. If you get knocked/blown down, or trip over a chain...that shit hurts! It will grate skin right off your hands if you aren't wearing gloves. :pinch:
