Hex Punch Set

Roll Models took over the Waldron punches...not sure if they have the hex sets...Historex I've heard good and bad things about...

Thanks Jeeves, I think I have solved the problem in the meantime, ordered some resin casting supplies...though a hex punch
would be handy to have.

Looking for hex head bolts and stuff? http://scalehardware.com/ might work for ya, kinda pricy but really good quality.

Actually, I'm trying to figure out a way to fix the horribly undersize center hub of the Dragon 250 halftrack road wheels.
I ordered some simple resin casting supplies, hopefully I can make some castings of the more correct ModelKasten part.
Too bad the MK set doesn't come with a full set of roadwheels.

Thanks, Tom

K&S has some brass hex rod but cutting it would be a pain. I picked up some a while back but never got it to behave the way I wanted, can't remember what it was for now.

Plastruct has styrene hex rods, I've been slicing off my own bolt heads for years.

This is not where I got mine, but shows what I'm talking about.

Yep, tried the plastruct hex rod, but can't seem to cut it without it looking like a wedge of cheese. Plus I would
have to drill a hole in the center, which doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun.

Tom, use the squash method of casting parts. Lightly oil the center hub bolt of the ModelKasten wheel. Then properly mix A & B (any two part) epoxy putty and apply to the oiled part to form the cast. Let dry and pop off.

Heat some sprue over a candle until it starts receding and turns shiny and squash this softened plastic into the hardened epoxy putty mold. Allow to dry, pop out the squashed copy, slice off the piece and glue to the kit.

Whaddaya know? Someone already has posted on this!

In the South, we would Mash the melted plastic, squash is for company casserole.

I like that Saul, really great tip. :mpup

Hey, Hey Saul, I actually tried the squash casting method...didn't come out so well. Not sure if I did something wrong or if the
mold is too deep, but the casting came out very soft and blobby.

Here is just one of my attempts:

And here is what I am trying to fix...

Thanks for the suggestions guys!

Have you a normal punch set ? If so (y)

Try doing a larger circular one than you need then you can cut off the edges to make a Hex :D

if not then completely ignore this message

I'm going to ignore that message...

I did think of that, but trying to cut a hex shape is bound to come out off center...but if my resin casting experiment goes bust
I may reconsider it.

Thanks Andy

Im sure as previously mentioned that Waldron do a hex set

Historex also do one

Blast models has one

but try this
