Help with the Ju-88A...

Hi Guys,

Got myself into some trouble entering the Bomber Command GB and now I gotta build myself a Junkers Ju-88A with PEs from Big Ed and possibly some bomb pods I ordered from England. Well, to help me along this build I'd like to get me some books on the Ju-88A, three of which I list below:

- Junkers Ju 88 in action, Part 1 - Aircraft No. 85 - Brian Filley

- Junkers Ju 88 Kampfgeschwader on the Russian Front (Combat Aircraft) - John Weal

- Junkers Ju 88 Kampfgeschwader in North Africa and the Mediterranean (Combat Aircraft) - John Weal

My question is: have any of you guys had these books in hand, and if so, are any of them good as reference for a model build?

the only tip i have for you is to get either montex masks or eduard express masks!

do yourself a favor and follow that tip! i really mean it!

Well the in action books are good for a general reference, but may not have much information on interior details. The others I don't know much about, but it looks like they will cover aircraft in those particular theaters.

Yes to canopy masks and take your time doing the PE.

As Laura said spend a few bucks and get the Montex masks. You don't have to get the large set with markings, but can order the small canopy set. They are worth while. Now this link http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=21808 is the best I know of for the 88A. The fellow who started it is a curator who has rebuilt 1 or 2 real 88's and has all the stuff right in front of him. He also helped Revel with the research for the kit. Anything you could want to see is here.

Um Junkers Brasileiro...

The best books are not there. It depends what you want. Scale plans? Photos for inspiration? Technical details? Close-up images for detailing and knowing where to put all that lovely PE?

Yes, I know I answered your question as to which type of book...

Click on this book to go to a nicely priced ($35USD) example on eBay:

James, thanks for the fabulous thread at LSP.

Regards,

Sorry, forgot to mention that. Sorry Saul but on a personal note that ebayer screwed me out of 3 books and a chunk of change. He might be okay but I feel the need to pass on my experience. I get my Aero Details here

James

Sorry Saul

Do not buy from Manny the Moocher! Sorry about the bad vendor link.

Funny, I also buy from RZM and did not occur to me to check there. I have fixed the link.

Thanks James,

Wow...

... amazing! There are four things to be said:

- you guys are simply formidable: so many replies in such a short time and everybody trying to help!

I will go after the Aero Detail 20 Junkers Ju-88 book! :)

- James, it seems you've been around for some 200 years or sumptin': you know just about everyone in the business and where to get very specific info about almost anything! :eek:hmy: Fantastic... no, really!!!

Thank you! :)

- yes, sharkmouth, "um Junkers brasileiro"... where'd you get your Portuguese from? Probably a Brazilian broad, eh?! ;)

- how "model-dumb" can one be? When I read Laura's advice on the Montex or Eduard "mask" I started thinking to myself, "how can she know what kind of paint/thinner I'm gonna use, to recommend me a mask...?!?!"
emoticon_confused.gif
Only when I read Mr T's remark on the "canopy" did I understand what Laura meant!

Well, thank you for the advice and I will try to get me one of those masks, as it seems it's vital for a good build...

Thank you all for your attention and help: you guys'n gals really rock! :ro:

Cheers! B)

A quick update: I just bought two sets of the Montex masks for the Revell Ju-88A, which I hope will be here in a month or so - I decided not to gamble on my inexperience... ;)

Again, thanx for the help everyone!

200 years?? 199 maybe
While your waiting for the masks, do you have Future floor polish down there? http://www.swannysmodels.com/TheCompleteFuture.html

Its is a clear acrylic covering. If there is something the same pour some in a small cup. Cut the clear canopy pieces and clean them (sand sprue remains etc.) Dip them in the future for about 10 minutes. From all I've read and from my experiments that works really well. Pull them out with tweezers and wick them on some paper towel. Then place them on a plate or board with paper towel on to dry. You might want to cover with something so they dont get dusty. In a month when the masks come they will be more than dry. This does 2 things. Makes them crystal clear, and if you use cyano glue to attach them, the glue wont fog them up. Usually I suggests a week to dry as I have found sometimes if only a day is given the tape will pull up the future.
Its not mandatory to do the future treatment, but it really helps and makes you build look just that much better.

Where are you from, if I may ask

I live in New York. Born and raised in the US of Puerto Rican parents.

Take James advice on the Future (Kristal Kleer, Clear Shine, different names in different courntries).
