Gunther Rall's Black 13 Me-109G-2

This must be decal Hell week !

Anyhow, glad you got it sorted out . Looking sharp.

What do you think of that adjustable stand ?

Cheers, Christian B)

I was wondern' where you were today..good update but man that thing is shiny! :popcorn

What's next, some washes?

Miles to go before I sleep on this one.... :) thanks guys!!

I like the stand there were some Assembly issues I had with it-but it's awesome- especially at this point. Also I can see it being good for transporting a real winner to that show ;)

I might write a review on it if I have the time :)

I have considered it as a helpful tool when building biplanes but in 1/72 I'm afraid some component would just wind up in the way.

Hard to tell without having one in your hands.

I agree with the travel part. It could be helpful indeed.

Thanks James!

Another problem- can one do a decent pin wash over a satin finish?

I have before. Might have to work a bit harder but it's doable .

The biggest problem would be caused from by the panel lines ext , being clogged with other finishes .

Cheers, Christian B)

That's some really nice work on the Bf 109G-2.

Sorry to hear of the troubles with the decals but it looks like you did an excellent job getting around the problem.

Yes you can do a pin wash over a satin finish, when doing pin washes I actually prefer a satin finish over a gloss finish. The reason being the pin wash tends to stay where you want it a little better than a gloss finish in which the pin wash is too easily wiped off.
Also wipe away the excess pin wash in the direction of the airflow which with a satin finish gives an eye pleasing weathering effect with very little effort.

Agreed, satin is an easier/better 'base' to lay your wash on. Nicely done so far, keep it coming.

Thanks guys i was tripping hard on that. The coating over the decals was the same product I had used earlier to prep the plane for decal acceptance (Krylon workable fixatif... ;0 )just a newer can... Seeems this formula is more of a satin.

decided to play it safe with this one. No dot wash- Rall only used this machine for 6 weeks and it was new when he got it. Yes I chickened out just going with standard pinwash and pigments and out!

Finally completed!!! This was a rough build that started Feb 2013- This biznatch got in my head a couple of times and almost won... OOB except for the gorgeous Radu harness and the home cast resin wheels (proud of those) some extra decals from Techmod. Kevin and HobbyDecal and of course- evergreen and procrastination. This is my sixth aircraft build since returning to modeling 5 years ago. Experten take it easy on me I know the serial is wrong...
