Film Advice

Sitting here going through my Dad's old photography stuff. Found his Nicca brand camera that he bought in Japan on the way to Korea in 1952-3. It's amazing to me the complexity of this thing. Two view finders, 4 rotary knobs that I have no idea what they do.

I open it up and low and behold....there's a roll of film in it! I can not tell you when the last time he used this camera. It's not in good shape, there's rust starting to form on the body and the leather grip casing on the body is deteriorating.

Big question, what do you think the chances the film is still good?? I'm not sure exactly where in the house this has been stored all the years, I don't think I have ever seen this camera.

Second question, do I trust the photo development folks at the local Walgreens to develop this?

This is the same camera he used to take these pictures.

Talked to my Brother, he reminded me that the local camera shop is still open. Heading there in the morning. Keep your fingers crossed!

When you opened it, was the roll finished? If it was still across the rollers, you probably aren't going to save the pix on the undeveloped film. Fingers crossed too.

I really hope you manage to save atleast some of the pics! i can imagine the exciting feeling to see whats on the pics! maybe a small puppy! :)

Matts, I was not even a thought when he stopped using this camera. And the Pup has never been small!!! :rotf

The Mystery will remain until the first of the week. Photoshop is closed on Sat, sign of the times I guess. I'll be able to slip by there Monday and we'll hopefully have something on the film. :fingers crossed

Nope, got distracted with real world.

I did take the film to the local camera shop but they no longer develop film, they send it to Walgreens. Even their professional service they use to send stuff to has shut down.

I'm going to have to risk it.

Now THAT is crazy, but Wallgreen's does have that 20 grand developer in the back, I trust the equipment, just wonder about how well the operator knows what he's working with.

Yep, I was just about to post about this. Took it to CVS here in town Tues, they attempted it. Said there should be no problem but there was nothing on the film. The guy sounded like he knew what he was talking about. The film was in good condition but he said it didn't look like anyone attempted to shoot anything on it.

So good to know nothing was lost.
