Feeling the Pressure...

Hi Guys
I am working on a project that I hope to have finished for AMPS in April. I am not close to being finished,
I haven't even started painting the figures yet. Sometimes I feel like giving up and cancelling the trip, there
is just too much work to be done.

My wife actually told me last night "No, you have to persevere, you've put too much work into this." Basically,
suck it up and get back to work.

I am feeling genuine stress about it. This is not fun. And I will NEVER do it again. If I have something done
and there is a show nearby I may enter it, but I'm not going to build anything on a deadline ever again.

I haven't posted much progress lately, simply don't have time. I may stick a pic or two up this weekend.

Any one else in this situation?

Only at work. No if it isnt fun there int much sense in playing. Can you do a standalone rather than a diorama?? Wouldnt have to do figs then.

I don't think so James, what I'm working on is basically a figure base, would look odd without them.

Luckily, work is kinda slow right now, no overtime.

Feeling for you Tom, but hang in there and do your best!
For me i almost must have a deadline (campaign etc.) for finnishing a build, otherwise i start something new :pinch:

It's always nice to have a understanding spouse and family that supports you (y)
so back to the workbench, you can do it!

Thanks Mats, yeah she is great. She's meeting some friends in Atlanta, so if I don't finish
she may go without me. :woohoo:

Never competed, only displayed once, so no pressure! I've only build for myself and find that I am my worst critic.

I'm on deadline with my job one hundred percent. I don't like to add pressure to modeling- it's just for fun, just for me. That said, can you get it done? Would it be better for your soul to just let it go this time, go to the show and simply enjoy yourself? I'm going to WonderCon today- just for fun. I'm stuck behind a table at the San Diego ComicCon and basically miss the show. I'm looking for ward to going just to stroll, shop and chat with my friends.

It's up to you, but I vote for taking care of yourself first when it comes to hobbies.
 
My dear Tom,
Sorry to hear about this,feeling stressed isn't a good thing when finishing a modelproject under deadline.
There's a chance you will make mistakes then.
TRY to relax and go from there,the world isn't coming to an end if you dont finish in time,
This still is a [great]hobby,more important is that you have fun.

Tom, I understand totally,....Can you not set by strict hours to work and plan your painting without rushing as rushing often ruins ?
 
I had a build I was working on last year that I started in April or May, w/ the intent of having it completed in time for the Southern NNL show in Atlanta in November. I knew by probably mid Sept. that it wasn't going to happen, so I just let it go, worked on it where i could, and its still not done, haha. Of course it didn't help that I moved in late October, and didn't do any modeling from about the first of October until early December.

I'd say give it a shot, if you can get it done. But don't sacrifice the build just to get it done. I made the decision early on w/ the car I was working on, that I wasn't going to push the build just for the sake of getting it done in time. I had a deadline, but it wasn't a be all, end all type of thing, which helped a lot w/ the amount of stress put into the build, considering how much stress there was anyway, b/c I was pushing myself way behind my comfort level on the stuff I was trying to do.
 
Finally caught on to the project, silly me. You have invested so much time effort and creative skill into this that I would make a conscious decision to not rush. If you dont make it this year then there is always next year. Dont rush this or you wont get the full enjoyment out of it. Go to the show finished or not and get new ideas and a recharge.

I have come to the conclusion that...There will always be more shows!

I have to admit that your advice fell on deaf ears at first. But the more I thought about it, the more sense it made.
I could probably get this thing completed, but it wouldn't be "finished". I had pushed myself in the build, doing things
I had never done before, and for the most part they came out well...so why compromise now? I figure it is about 70% complete,
after over a year and could take another 3-4 months of painting...and learning to use the huge pile of AK & Mig products I
have accumulated.

So I will take my good friend Ron's advice and try to relax and make it fun again...Thanks Ron!

A special thanks to James, whose post I saw this morning at work. It was what made me realize I shouldn't rush things, take
my time and end up with something I will be proud of...Thanks James!

And yeah, Mary and I will be at the show, hope to meet some of you you!
