Does this model is expensive?...

This Challenger 1, all made of gold plates, was given as a present to the Shah of Iran, by Vickers, the manufacturer of the tank.

Today it is in the Tank Museum in Bovington, England.

The only thing I'm thinking is that we could melt it down, sell the gold and set up all the MA members with free kits for the campaigns for years :eek:hyeah

Not to get all pedantic but if you read the placard it says that it was crafted by Vickers when they were commissioned to build the Shir 2 tank for Iran.

When the Shah ended up being overthrown, the project was developed as the Challenger 1 and the model was given to The Tank Museum. I did a bit of paraphrasing there.

That project is a bit like the U.S. Navy Kidd class destroyers. There were four that were built for Iran when the Shah was in power but he was overthrown before delivery so we just kept 'em. Probably kept their money too. :D

It is still very, very cool.

I'm with Jeff on this one!

Wow. Reminds me of the gold race car trophies given to Nascar Cup Series champions every year.

I wonder if you took that tank to a show if someone would question the accuracy of the armor plate and complain about the colors used...:rotf

Thanks for sharing this Luiz (y)

Guys it said on the placard underneath that it was plated in gold. Could very well be a resin model under there. Nothin like 18 karat resin. :hmmm

Well, POOP!

You have just spoiled my Christmas! I was putting one on the list... Damn! Condemned again to socks and ugly neck ties.
