Decal masks

When you spray a decal mask like a roundel on a British aircraft over the camo, what do you do with a light colour like yellow ? I dont want to use a white base as i want to be able to chip and wear it in place ?

I still use a flat colour when doing red, white, yellow as the pigmentation seems denser. So I would paint the circle flat yellow and then depending on what I am trying to do, over spray that with a gloss yellow. I have also had luck with Tamiya paints mixing a bottle of flat colour with gloss colour for a semi gloss.

Well, the yellow has always been a problematic color due to translucency. If you didn't want to weather it and wished it to be bright, a pink undercoat does that! However, if your weathering is that sandblasted look, it simply has to expose the camouflage colors underneath.

What I have done in the past is spray the flat colors like James. The flat white, yellow, and red spray much better than gloss colors. If the colors then need to be gloss, some gloss coat takes care of that. Though I usually just overcoat the whole model with a flat coat which blends things down nicely.

What really annoys me is myself 🤣
I go on and on about useless aftermarket, then i buy some , then i go on about how useless it is. What is it they say?, once is a mistake, twice is stupid, three times you are a f"*king Idiot :)
So I bought some Montex masks. No instructions, not even a vague diagram The canopy masks are a complete guess. I have the roundel masks but what do you do with them ?. I know i have already explained i am a F*"king idiot on a good day but if i stick the lot on then peel away a section and spray blue. the only way i can then see to spray red is to re stick the blue section over the blue but the paper is so micro thin its deformed when i removed it the first time. After a long and arduous search on google i found a guy that says i need to buy some Frisket film....what the hell is that ? i am guessing its a US thing right ? From his description he is using a clear low tack tape to stick over the decal mask to stop it distorting when you lift it and re apply. Well here s a thought Montex, make the bloody mask thick enough for it to hold its shape in the first place. I am not buying after market to fix the after market ........grrrrrrr

anyway........where are my Decal solutions , this weeks special words are " water slide decals" children :)
