Catawba Valley Scale Modelers Show March 16, 2013

Iron Mike

Master At Arms And Resident Curmudgeon
Hello friends!!

Chris and I headed to my wife's hometown of Hickory, NC to attend the Catawba Valley Modelers' show, it was a beautiful day in the piedmont! We did not get there as early as we usually do, the room was PACKED! There were many vendors selling a variety of kits at the swap meet and the model room was equally attended. We met up with some of our South Carolina brothers, Mike Roof and Bob Spag, that tremor you may have felt was Bob S. buying an airplane kit!!

We also ran into a couple of the Gaston County Gang, we have photo evidence of that. B) The venue was a little small for the turnout, but it appeared all were having a great time. Here are a few of the models that were there.

The show was held at the Hickory Municipal Airport, which is home to several static aircraft on display. We had a ball looking them over!

The unmistakable sound of a Huey caught our attention. They were practicing while we were out there.

Well crap, that pisses me off. The info I found posted online the other day is that the show was tomorrow, in Statesville, so I didnt even attempt to go. I had planned on going until I saw the page saying it was tomorrow.

Looks like it was a good show.

*edit* CVSM need to tell someone to update their frigging website. I didn't even realize that the info that was posted on their site, was for last years frigging show.

Saul that one has me stumped.

Great pictures Mike, glad y'all had a good time. Some great reference shots for Gate Guards

Thanks for looking up that Spanish plane Saul. I was struggling to remember what it was. The first I ever saw in real life.

I know all this looks pretty significant aircraft parked on this ramp.

The F-105 is a speed record for a flight from Alaska to Cal.

The F-14 flew the last mission for the type.

The F-4B was something like #6 off the production line.

The A-7 has flew many sortie in SEA without receiving a single bullet hole in it . A lot of aircrew members have come by over time and recounted personal experiences in this particular bird (y)

The Fury is just a very hard to find airframe.

I know I have noticed a lot of people on ARC ask about the color of wheel wells on a Thud. Well, that was it. Very green.

The show was packed . Way too many exhibit and too many people crowded in that tiny space.
The swap meet room was even worse , being comparable to a log jam .

This show could have been considerably more fun if it would be held at larger location.

The flight line was a lot of fun. We must have received the 50 $ tour without even asking . It was great.

Cheers, Christian B)

A big thank you to Kyle Kirby, who gave us that $50 tour for free! Here's a link to their website if anyone is interested in checking it further.
