Canadian Mustang modellers

Anyone who is doing a post war Canadian Mustang, I found an interesting nugget of info. A fellow was in the museum and we where talking. He worked on Mustangs among other aircraft and said that we only carried 4 guns while the Americans carried 6. Instead of an extra 2 guns we carried more ammo. As far as he could recal they did not fair over the empty gun port. I dont know which guns where missing, but it is a good start for research. Just thought I would pass this nugget on.

Since the ammo cans were on the outside of the wing, I bet those outer guns were the ones gone. not sure how they numbered them, guns 1 and 6, IIRC, the weapon stations were numbered from left to right from the pilot's POV.

Definitely it was the center guns as the gun bore sighting placard shows the forward ammunition bay for either two or four guns and the rear bay for the inboard guns.

Deleting the center guns allowed for the full ammunition load to be used on the outboard guns.

This should be easy to spot in photos as the middle gun does stick out when installed.

I'll have to look through the archives. Found some cool CF-104 pics. Looking for CF-116 or CF5 pics. I have a conversion and a Hasegawa F-5E that will become a F-5 A. Trying to find 2 more conversions and 2 more kits with little luck (actually the conversion I should be able to get in July). Thanks for the plate Saul.

I have all the placards on file to print out... :D

James, do you need another Hasegawa 1/32nd scale F-5E?

I only have one as Duke Mad Dog (yep, braille scale man) got the other. PM me to work something out.

Martin (Swiss Mustangs), from the P-51 SIG forum, posted this photo he found in a Flickr album on the RCAF's 403 Squadron:

Note the missing center gun? (click the image to go to the album) Thanks Martin!
