Was that the gun pod that had the little slip stream generator that popped out the side?

That was the larger 20mm gun pod.Was that the gun pod that had the little slip stream generator that popped out the side?
Ah yes, Suu 23...self powered. I think the power requirements for the gun were greater than what could be delivered in some pylons if I remember my 462 training material. Through the fog of time and dead brain cells. That was the larger 20mm gun pod.

I remember reading about this somewhere. Don't know if they actually flew or even fired them all like this, not sure they could fire them all at once.OK, which one of you has a 32nd scale F-4B and is willing to do this 15 second to mince meat load out? If you show me the kit, I will give you my leftover SUU-11B/A (Army designation XM18E1) for free! However, you'll need to get more! Count them!

I'm not aware of this Bob Google claims those were meant for helicoptersI remember reading about this somewhere. Don't know if they actually flew or even fired them all like this, not sure they could fire them all at once.
@phantom II Chris you recall anything? Didn't they load it up more as a joke, kinda like the toilet on the Sandy?
Several aircraft used the SUU-11A/A and B variants. The Army called them the M18 and M18E1 for their helos. mostly for COIN so seen on AH-1 Sandys and A-37 Tweetys during 'Nam...I'm not aware of this Bob Google claims those were meant for helicopterd but were experimental.
The picture of the crashed Cobra. I was there removing the rockets from the pods. The ship was 040 and it is today at a WFW in Sateside NC. At least I think that's the name of the town. It crashed after during a test rocket run both pods, one on each side had a hung rocket that burned out the back of the pods and knocked off the tailrotor. It came down in a dry rice paddy and rolled over. Capt. Cranny was in the back seat and SP/5 Cauldwell in the front. They were on a test flight. I had 18 days left in country. Gary S.Progress is progress!
I wondered why the resin replacement turrets didnt have blanking plates:

Well, all photos show them not to be in place!

Even the manual:

By the time you read this, all three plastic turrets will have the blanking plates removed. Internal structures to hold the weapons are next, then external fasteners for the hinges and latches to finish them off.
