Bergepanzer Tiger (P)

New member
Happy new year to all.

Here we start.
My project is a Bergepanzer Tiger (P) from Heavy anti-tank unit 653.
The plan is to make a late version from 1944.
Is's a Dragon model with Atak zimmerit and Eduard photo etch.

And here 1 day later with all that lovely zim on.

I have one question. What color is under all that zimmerit? Red? Yellow? Gray? or ?
The plan is to make a well used model.

That's all for now, and happy modeling.

the "i hereby open a can of worms" question!

i'd say that since zimmerit was factory applied either primer red for original paint job zimmerit damage or yellow when the field workshop had applied new paint!

I know it's a tricky question.
I think i will go for the red primer color, when this little baby is going to paint.

Hello Henrik :) .

It's looking very good so far.

As far as the "can of worms" question. It's like all WWII German armor questions. Simple :woohoo: .

At the factory the zimmerit was applied over the primer, with no paint applied directly to the hull (and turret, for tanks). This was almost (notice I used that word) always done this way.

The zimmerit itself had a good deal of yellow ocre pigment added to it at the factory where it was made, then shipped to the vehicle manufacturing factories.

So if the top coat of paint was chipped off, but there was still zimmerit on the vehicle, it would show up as yellow ochre.

If it was chipped all the way through, it would show the red oxide primer with some of the zimmerit color showing around the edges, then the top paint color.

As far as field applied zimmerit, that is my can of worms that I know nothing about. But the zimmerit you have here does not look like a field applied coat, but in the end you can do this however you want, and I'm sure it will end up looking great.

Hi Henrik.

You win the first to start prize
 :notworthy (y) :dude :peace .
Unfortunately that was the prize ;) .

But you have started and it looks good so far. I just love seeing the photo etch going on.

A very cool vehicle , I will say that the three converted Ferdinand that were built as Bergetigers were originally Ferdinand that had major upper structural damage and were considered not salvagable as Elefant ...... Soooooo the under colour of the zimmerit would be the original camouflaged hull I believe and not Primer Red , so it would be cool and realistic to show a deteriorated camo scheme which does not match the later scheme B) .

Well it's time for a update on the berge projekt.

Most is done for now. Now for some color, lets see yellow would be a nice start :)

You are off to a great start! This is an interesting subject to me, will follow along closely! (y)

Hi Gun.

That is a nice looking Berge. Did that kit go together as easy as it looked from here? I have been thinking about doing one, but I can't decide if I want to do this one, or the new Dragon PzIV version. And now we get to watch the paint. Are you going to go straight to the panzer yellow, or are you going to put down any base colors?

Looks real good so far, nice clean build.Hey where's the main gun ?? will be watching your progress.

Hi there.

Hi Dario
The crane, is the one from the kit; so no extra there.
And as for the sanitätkasten, it is from Verlinden's no 916 " German communications equipment WWII" kit.
