It may sound superficial or corny, but after the 9/11 attacks (I grew up in NYC and still live in the state), one thing that still sticks in my mind was the following week when the NFL resumed games. The Giants were away at the Chiefs and some beautifully kind fan held up a banner that read "KC :love NY". It still brings a tear to my eye.

Brussels in Belgium is about 1.5 to 2 hours,depending on traffic,drive by car from the place I live in the Netherlands.
Just the other day they catched one of the prime suspects from the Paris shootings in the Brussels Molenbeek area,so people felt relieved.
Brussels,the capital of the European Union,used to be such a great place to visit.With all the military, for some time now on the streets, you just know something isn't right anymore.

We've had a few incidents here, the latest some......ahem....went into a recruitment center with a large knife, only managed to injure two people before getting overpowered.....the police were loath to report any information which would lead us to believe it may have been a terrorist attack.....which I think given the situation we all knew any way and was later confirmed.

Just to let you all know that I and veerle are ok, we live some 45 minutes from the airport.
