Academy C-97 Stratofreighter

They had one at the old Florence Air and Space Museum that closed 100 years ago. We use to stop on the way to Myrtle Beach back in the day. Loved crawling over those birds. They had a Globemaster they would open up on both ends and folks would take shelter from the heat inside. Us kids didn't care, there were airplanes to explore.

I took these photos at the San Diego Aerospace Museum's Gillespie Field Annex.

Yes! I did the same thing. That was so fun to sit in!

Great pictures Rob.
Here are a couple I took of the C-97 at the Don Q inn in Dodgeville Wisconsin.

I first saw this aircraft in 1989. She was in much better shape then

Pretty cool! Mind the gear retract levers! Well, maybe not after Soooo many years.

Bob,
It has settled a lot in the last 30 years.
They took better care of it many years ago.
It was closed up at night, a person would open it up for tours.
If you stayed at the hotel you could have your breakfast out in the plane.

Now it is open permanently. They built a wooden platform so it was easier to get into.
But the platform does not allow the door to be shut.
I will dig through my old photo albums for old pictures from back in the day.
