A little pet project I've been working on - USAFE

I've started work on a spreadsheet that compiles information found in Wikipedia for USAFE wings and squadrons permanently based in Europe during the Cold War years. From what I've found so far, most of the permanently deployed squadrons are of the "small" fighter style aircraft. Most of the heavies (cargo, bombers, and refueling) seem to be more of a constant rotating, short-term deployment of predominantly US based wings. I wouldn't put much faith in that assumption, though, as I haven't done much digging into the heavies yet. I suspect there may be some units out of the UK, but I need to do a bit more digging. Right now my focus is on the fighter wings.

This all came about when I was looking for a Cold War subject, then trying to figure out which aircraft were deployed to Europe, during which time, with which squadron...so I could try to locate suitable decals. The information I was looking for is so scattered, that I decided I wanted to compile a bulk of it in one location for ease of searching. I know this is something I'll get a bunch of use out of in the future, so I think the time put in now will ultimately be worth it in the end. It's by no means all-inclusive...but if I can capture 85-90% of the permanently deployed units I will be more than happy with that.

The initial wing/squadron search is based off active wings as of 1988. I'm currently working through the 17th AF...so there is minimal stuff from Germany/Netherlands at this time. UK/Spain should be largely there. Once I catch up on the active wings from 1988, I will go back and follow up on the USAFE structure of 1955 to capture some loopholes that are likely missed from some of the early squadrons.

The list is broken out by Wing/Squadron/Years/Aircraft/Base/Country

It is filterable on my end, so if there is something you'd like me to grab a filtered list of, shoot me a PM and I'll see what I can do. Just a reminder though, it's still a work in progress.

I think I may have gone off the deep end. :silly:
