A Bridge too Far repair and repaint

mike walsh

Master at Arms
Hi ,

Here is the intro to what I would like to capture,in a matter of speaking :)

The movie had such a huge impact with a lot of big stars and being that the Bronco models released the
humber armoured car with non other than the excellect resin sculptured Michael Caine figure I just had to
portray this sweet looking vehicle on a very nicely sculptured base.
Thanks Michael

The movie ,the inspiration .The idea based on the advance of the armoured division and coping with prisoners.
During the course of the building I hope you like the results.

The figure will be detailed with archer unit insignia and rank on the shoulders.

The interior painting is going to take up the majority of time .

The interior is now in .Everything that was in the kit is now inside
Less the handle for the drivers visor .

Ross Allen has fixed me up with a couple of the new miniart figures with excellent detail.
The driver figure was what I was in need of and the figure was modified to fit in the seat.
The hands have been adjusted holding the steering wheel and I will fill in and sculplt with tamiya putty to blend in where I have cut the hands .
The figure will have a warrior head with headphones and the hatch on top will be open and it will allow to see in and pick up the detail inside .

After a brief search there wasn't much as to coloured interior photo's on the net that I could find so I winged it a bit.
I hope you like the images.

After checking heights and figure position of the top half . We can now proceed further to figure painting and glueing the top half down .
Here is the figure with the head and upper halves on .

And the layout.

I have been eagerly awaiting the Husser wheels.
Because our summers in Qld can get quite hot I was unsure that the rubber compound in the tires might split or crack on the rim hence I went down the track of getting the resin wheels .
This is the first time I've used this brand .I could not get over the amount of quality casting detail.Very nice .

Here is just a quick example of the tires on the armoured car.
I hope the image shows how sharp the tyres look .

Have got the driver and commander figure ready for the decals

I've done the first level of painting for the stowage with more work to be completed once its stuck to the vehicle.

And ,in the interim I have been test fitting the driver to see if he's positioning is going to be ok .

Small model but a lot of time to get it right

Cheers

Re:A Bridge too Far

Wow - looking great so far!
Love the interior details...
"Cornered" rules... ;-)

Re:A Bridge too Far

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement.

all the archer decals are now on all the figures.

The humber is together with a bit if filler needed on the sides .
Its early stages with a lot more accesories to go on the humber .

Re:A Bridge too Far

Thanks Laura and Terry for your words of encouragement.

I would like to get some more images up in the next few days with the stowage and weathering on the humber .
Its a great little project because its very small and delicate.

Michael:)

Re:A Bridge too Far

Nice diorama and good work on the Humber, looks like a lot of detail. I'd like to try building one of those scout cars sometime.

Re:A Bridge too Far

Well Mike this is impressing me no end , the bronco kit is looking really nice ;) .

I love the base colours too !

Jenny

Re:A Bridge too Far

Thanks Abdin and Jenny.

My apologies for the late reply .

The tree in the corner was filled upwith some tamiya putty covering the wire strands .
nothing else has been done :(

I've been side tracked with the hanomag 251/17 build :side: :)

working flat out on completing the hanomag on a base .

I want to finish it even though the Halftrack GB has closed off.

I'm not one to have too many half completed builds across the workbench.

This weekend is where I'm going to plough into some work on the humber ,tree and base.
More to follow shortly .

Michael :)

Re:A Bridge too Far

Hello again.

The base has come close to completion and there is some paint on the tree.

The markings are on the Humber and there still is more work to do with chipping, weathering and adding more kitbags .
The base got a coat of pigment and The finish line is getting closer :) :cheer: :cheer:

humber repaint

and markings to be done again :(

Somewhere along the line I had a huge fopar and went sideways with the wrong markings :X :side:

I'm back to the repair and rebuild mode .

The old markings have been removed with an exacto blade No11 and then some very fine wet and dry sandpaper was used to reduce any paint ridge detail from where the markings are.

Hopefully more to follow .
If it goes south and does'nt work then I'll wing it with another vehicle
Nah it should all be good :)

Re: humber repaint

You must have taken down the other pictures. I missed when you called this complete. dang thing looks good as is. I'm sure anything more you do to it will only improve. Ya gotta get those antenna installed though.

Re: humber repaint

Thanks Bob,

I had the humber on side table and knocked the arial off when I turned around.
With the correct markings I can put more stowage in the nose of the humber :)

This weekend will be the start :hmmm

Michael

Re: humber repaint
