A Base For The Base Of Your Latest Model

Iron Mike

Hello sports fans! While walking through the Home Decor section at work, I noticed these cork plant coasters and thought they would make a great base for my models! They have several sizes, I picked up three to try out.

The 6" is about right for 1/72 scale.

The 8" is good for smaller vehicles, like my shelf queen Hetzer.

GOTTA finish this one of these first days!

The 10" looks good with larger vehicles.

The coasters have a layer of cork on a hardboard base, so they are quite rigid and should be ready to accept the groundwork of your choice. Here's a link to finding them in the US of A. http://www.lowes.com/pd_133169-52487-831510_0__?Ntt=133169&productId=3582712&rpp=16

Thanks for stopping by and have a great time at the bench!! (y)

Not expensive to boot! I can now replace a nicely sized (and blackened) one in the kitchen.

My wife made some great soup and went to place it in the spare refrigerator which has glass shelves. The soup was very warm so she placed one of these first.

Getting home late, I took the pot (not knowing the cork was attached by moisture) and placed it on the stove. She complained of a smell (I can't smell since I was hit by a car as a pedestrian) and then I found the cork. The example I have doesn't come with the hard backing so I will see how it cuts.

Regards,

I got all four sizes today Mike, thanks for the tip! Wonder what you would do for the edging?

I'd paint the edge black before adding the ground work and touch up any boo boos. These would look really good mounted on a wood base. :hmmm

Well...it's too small for the Graf Spee..;hmmm Could make it look like tarmac for some generic aircraft display, or some grass land.
