ok this is the 1/25 amt 49 ford. this is an expirement in weathering and abuse.

first let us take a look at the ford body with a flat black coat.

then i shot a coat of gloss black.

then i hit it with first an overall of alclad stainless steel and spotty alclad alum. you will see a massive run on one side. dont worry about that.

when that was dry to the touch i put some grains of salt in different areas. then i spot sprayed rust colored primer.

and continued....

after the rust primer dried i scattered some more salt grains and then shot the body color.

then i did something i told myself i would not do again. i sprayed a clear coat over the body coat, but only in spots. and it happened again.

yep just what i thought. with this clear coat if the paint is not 100% cured it tends to crack and curl and totaly screw up the paint. and that is just what i wanted. now just to let this completely dry then the next phase for the body begins.

comments and criticisms encouraged.

james i am in the same boat. even though i have a plan for this i want to go with the flow and see where it leads.

Re: 49 ford (picture intense) dang it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you for the kind words.

bad news. i screwed up. really messed the paint job up when i was trying to add just a touch of additional rust.

she is now in oven cleaner and will be restarted. may start the engine and such in the meantime.

Re: 49 ford (picture intense) better

ok same basic process but different catalyst for the weathering. i still like the other way but i need to refine it a bit.

now the same basic process, flat black, gloss black, alclad stainless steel, rust, then krylon blue. however as recommended i tried hairspray. i was leary of this but i got to tell you i am massively impressed with the results.

opinions, comments, criticisms?

Re: 49 ford a quick mock up

now just a quick mock up.

you will notice it sits much higher in the rear than the kit does normally. when the rear end was put on the frame and then the frame fitted there were a few issues that arose. the frame does not fit even with the underside of the body. it actually fits where the body hangs low in several spots. also when the body was fitted it was found that the wheels would not fit under any circumstances. therefore a minor modification was needed. hopefully it looks like a garage mechanic added some bracing to increase the heighth. i can live with both of these as one will not be seen and the other well not much i can do about it anyway.

comments, criticisms?

Re: 49 ford a quick mock up

terry thanks. i still hope to do this kit justice.

hopefully i can get some work done on it this week. want to try to add brake and fuel lines as well as adding a bit to the engine compartment.

Re: 49 ford a quick mock up

I know what you mean I'm working on ignition and fuel lines on my little hot rod.

Re: 49 ford a quick mock up

ok just a quick update.

please bear in mind i am not a car expert, when i looked online i found many different forms of the way the lines laid. i also found many different forms of the engines. i chose to do what looked decent to me.

the engine

mock-up-16.jpg

the interior

the redone shocks

and then some assorted shots

and some exhaust modification.

now there are some of you that may look at the windows and say joe you screwed up. those of you who have been in the midwest with a car that has no heater will recognize the look. the lines are milliput. the shocks are rod and tube.

comments and criticisms are encouraged.
