well moving right along...

looking for the next project i decided to try this.

revell/monograms 32 ford 3-window coupe. pretty simple kit i thought. something i could play a little with but build somewhat oob.

for those that dont know here is the kit.

box-art.jpg

overall not a bad first impression. 7 sprues, 3 white, 2 chrome, 1 clear, and one for the tires.

i couldnt help myself. i just had to dig in.

first i put the basics for the engine together.

i then started playing with the chasis. the front end is suprisingly intricate. wasnt real easy to get together but not real difficult. as with most of this i used school glue so i could get it painted and then i will attach everthing permanently.

while that was drying a little bit i decided to see if i could get the body together enough to be ready to paint.

i also clipped and prepped the little parts for the engine.

now the hope is tomorow to start the painting process. i have a plan for this.

Re: 32 ford three window coupe..........it begins

That is a great kit, was kit of the year back in '96! Lends itself to a great looking rod or highboy, whatever you choose. It's nice to see a Ford in a Ford too, that small block is well detailed! (y) :drinks

Hi Joe, Looks like you got a nice kit to build. That front end does look nice and delicate. Looking forward to your progress!

Gonna be a nice looking rod when you are finished. I am going to keep an eye on your build, as I have that particular model as well. Have fun with it.

Re: 32 ford three window coupe..........body paint

stug thanks for tuning in....

well folks there is a reason i like doing autos.

lots of fun and they can be pretty quick.

tonights update.....................paint.

yep i shot some paint on the body and some other parts........................wait...................back up.................

first thing i did was to shoot some flat black on the parts and the body.
(no pics)

i then decided something just a touch different, flat white on a couple of body panels. want to give it a different color primer look.

then i shot some hairspray. just on the off color panels.

i then shot rust colored primer over all the parts, minus the chasis, and then i shot hairspray (pretty heavily) over that when it dried.

paint-7.jpg

paint-8.jpg

after the hairspray dried well then it was time for the body color. gloss black. again i shot it over the body. slight issue developed. seems i shot lint, clumps, and assorted stuff as well as the gloss black. for this build that will not be an issue but i will need to address that for future use of the a/b.

so now i am forced to let this dry overnight. i love rustoleum flats they dry to the touch in about half an hour. rustoleum gloss however takes a good few hours to dry to the touch. so until tomorow my friends.

Re: 32 ford three window coupe update 1/16

now for the update. here is where the direction of the build shows its course.

over the last couple of days i have used the hairspray method and used some pastels to work this a bit.

first there were 8 layers of paint sprayed. each layer was pretty light with hairspray separating the layers. when that was done i let it sit until dry to the touch. i then scrubbed with a toothbrush until the layers began to reveal themselves. tonight i used both a soft and stiffer brush to put some pastels in the mix.

well ................. give me your opinions. does it look the part.

i then took the body and added some pastels as well.

well there she is. the path is determined. i have a few chrome parts to give the treatment to but to be honest i am thrilled with the way this looks. up next is finishing the chrome parts off and then moving on to the interior.
