2026 Plastic Surgeons Meetings and Other Model Fun!

My Sweetie and I attended Webb (Wilbur) Groos celebration of life last Sunday.
I don't want anyone to think I'm the sort of guy that takes a bunch of pictures of such an occasion. I am not. Son Barry and daughter Amy welcomed guests from 1400 to 1700 hrs. 2 very tall, muscular, immaculate Iowa State Troopers present the flag to Webster's family and an End of Watch transmission was made from a 1985 Chevy CHP prowl car. The whole ceremony was very moving for all. Barry was really brave at this event that he had been putting together since July.
He wanted everything to just-so for his hero dad, and it was.

There is a (car) nut that lives not far from Ames, in Kelley, Iowa. Retired IHP Trooper 148, Robert Parks. He supplied the "hardware" and much of the California and Iowa Highway Patrol memorabilia for Webb's Celebration of life. A suitably bitter-sweet occasion for our respected friend.

Trooper Bob has a Bluesmobile! (no, he didn't fix the cigarette lighter) My sweetie seemed pleased that the stuff I collect is much smaller than the 1/1 vehicles in Trooper Bob's collection. Adam 12. The Kawasaki Police bike from T2. Lots of cool stuff. Rescue Squad 51 had a granny tranny, rather than the automatic transmission in the TV show.
I have his card if anyone wants to visit the warehouse where his collection is stored.

Operation Resupply Russell update;
I met with Don Barry's grandson this morning. Dane has left the scale modeling community. He really enjoyed his Saturday afternoons with his Grampa Don building and painting, and the trips to contests we made as a group. It just isn't the same after Don passed away. He doesn't hate models or model makers, he has chosen some Real Life for himself and his Sweetie.
Yes she's an actual, real girl! They plan a family and a new car. Since Don assembled Dane's tools and supplies as an act of affection for his Grandson, Dane has chosen to donate his remaining kits, tools and supplies to our Grandson, Russell.

The started Shelby Mustang kit should be a hit!

These are both complete and unstarted. Paint, clamps and glue are all viable. The cute lil' Iwata single-action airbrush will be ideal for a beginner like our Boy!

Toolbox and tools. Brushes enough for any fledgling model maker. I cleaned the battery goo out of the paint mixer and it works. Then there's this cool saw combo. I eyed this with bad intent for more than a few moments. Then, I put it back where it belongs, in Russell's new tool box. Once his new, secure room is done, the only staple left to add is Tamiya tape.

Thanks to all you men that supported this labor of love for a favorite grandkid!

Hopefully his little brother will get the professional help he needs to unfrazzle his nappy, little head and be a happy guy.

That is an interesting saw combo. Where that come from?

Hijack warning.

Squad 51...the memories. Been watching this Firehouse Chronicles on YouTube, the guy has a lot of fun poking at the real life calls they have to respond to and firehouse shenanigans. One of the bits he does is green screening himself into current fire/rescue TV shows and calling out the utter bullshit they do for drama. You think back on Emergency, I heard that when that show started there were only 2 firehouses that had registered licensed Paramedics working and by the end of the run it was common practice. How many stories were there about people being saved by what someone saw on the show. It was legit medical drama and some firehouse shenanigans.

Point is, why does modern shows have to be so full of crap?

Wow, Chris, I didn't know you were in Los Angeles! I would have loved to meet up! Oh man, lost opportunities.

I'm glad Russel Is getting more stuff. I wanted to participate but never go information where to send things. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he builds once he gets started!

I remember Emergency. It was a great show we watched all the time. Fun fact: Kevin Tighe and Randolf Mantooth were required by the producers of that TV show to work for one year as paramedics in order for them to learn the job and be as authentic and real as possible. What they did on the show is the same as what they did for that entire year before filming started.
