The plastic rod fills the voids of the out of practice hand, but will make for some pretty scars! :ro:

IRON MIKE,

OH ! You're a bad Man ! Hell Yeah. Thanx for this. Although I do love th Armor, There is a Car Modeler screaming to get out. I've had the Ol' School AMT/ERTL KISS Model Van. 100% unbuilt. I would love to Build this. I've thought of Chopping th top on the Van & Slam it to th Ground !

Instead of building this Artifact from '70's Culture. I could scan th Decals & Build a Newer Chevy Custom Van from th 70's ? Any suggestions ?

Th Chop Job looks Great .

I'll be keeping an Eye on this one !! (y)

Thanks Chris! I guess I have to blame this on Kevin, he sent me pix of one of his builds and opened the door!

Erik, I know there are some van kits still around, so if you want to practice.......

MP, you know what they say "If you can't log on, build something!"

War Of The Worlds is broadcasting at http://wsgeonline.gaston.edu/wsge/ if anyone's interested. Ought to start a little after 4PM EDT today.

Dear Mike.

...I love model cars...it's one of my passions,too...following this one with a big interest...btw,you are doing one of the finest jobs!

Regards,my friend!

Luiz.

Hey KoolKats! Man, it feels good to get back to my roots, at least for awhile! My schedule has been wacky the last couple weeks, so didn't make any progress on the rod. I'm off today and tomorrow, so all the chores that I had put off are getting done in between modeling sessions. Next on the agenda is sectioning (shortening) the box, so after some careful measuring and eyeballing, here comes the Choppa!

img_3762_2_20101117_1032941579.jpg

I cut the finished end off the box and glued it to the shortened bed.

In order to get the stance I wanted, some of the bed floor needs to be removed (channeled). More eyeballing :hmmm

img_3767_5_20101117_1666737966.jpg

Then some careful filing to get it to drop in.

Breaking out the Blue Tack, I can hold everything together long enough to see how she sits.

Still debating the choices for the mill to make the go power, leaning toward dual quads with a kustom air cleaner. Almost ready for primer! Thanks for the comments, please stay tuned! B)

Took a little break and decided to get back at it. Mocking up the intake, as you can see it's an AMT kit, Always More Trouble!

The fit of the parts leaves much to be desired, so this is just a test. What do you think? Still have another option I can go with, but I was kind of liking the shark mouth shape of the air cleaner. I'll substitute different carbs with more detail, but that requires an a major expedition into the parts boxes.:D

You think you can get enough air into those throats? I'd hate to get my hand anywhere close to that opening when that thing is suckin air in. This looks like really fun work Mike. That bed is just screaming for wood floor!

A wood bed you say?? I just happen to have a hand full of hardwood coffee stirrers, wonder if I have any Evergreen I beams?? Oh no, not another trip to the hobby shop!:S I'm thinking shark mouth on the air cleaner :hmmm

Hello friends!! Here's what the morning has wrought, a wood bed or the start of one!

img_3778_1_20101118_1684143024.jpg

Looks rougher on here than in person, but I'll add the strips in between that will cover the gaps, just like on the real thing. I'm headed back for the bench, more later.

That would make Saul very happy.

Ibeams, I got some, but your LHS is closer.

You're right, strips would clean it up nicely, chrome strips would be WAY cool.. :D
