    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

The Zero's exauhts pipes were drilled out and the cowl flaps were thinned. White glue is applied in layers to fill gaps around the canopy then smoothed with a damp finger. Gary S.

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

Yea, that's what the American pilots first thought too when it was first encountered. Here's some pics. On the Zero, this is the markings that came on the decal sheet and that is in one of my books. There's a discrepancy between A6M5c or A6M5. Don't care. Here's how the tail cone light came out...

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

Both canopies are glued and snuggled down with tape. The camo and markings on the Zero that's going to be used have no white ring and a swooping up demarcation line. Gary S.

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

Thanks!! I'm having some doubts about some of the literature about the camo and the white ring around the fuselage "meatball". Some people say that the Mitsubishi Zero'shad no white ring and that the demarcation line between colors went from the trailing wing straight back to the tail cone. That...

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

The wings and tail feathers are on the Tony. Some fit issues with the trailing fillets behind the inner flaps. On the Zero, a piece of clear spruce was glued on which will be whittled down to shape the tail cone light. Gary S.

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

The Zero pilot is done, he still needs a joy stick. The wings of the Tony are just dry fitted on. There's not a lot of dihedral. The fuselage still needs some body work. Also took a few pics of the cockpit. Gary S.

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

The Tony fuselage is glued together along with the head rest assembly. Also, the wings of the Zero are attached. Fit on both are pretty good. Still working on painting the pilot. He's going to look like the guy on his right. And I have a new hobby. Saw this beautiful orchids in Publix and just...

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

Thanks for the Bday wish. As the years go by the aches multiply and feeling older intenseifies. What the hell happened? The Tony cockpit is almost done, just needs a little touching up. Photo etch was used for the seatbelts and rudder pedals. The Zero cockpit is done for what can be seen of it...

    A6M5 Zero and Ki-61 Tony

Yesterday, Birthday Boy, got some time off for goog behavior, so he painted the base cockpit colors. This morning I did some of the detail painting with more to come later. Both canopies are closed and a lot of detail will not be seen. If the Zero didn't get some sort of cockpit, the wheels...
