Panzer III Ausf J

Thanks all. Mike thanks for the pic. Tony, I looked at the wrong article.I thought you'd done one on blacken it. I did the steps I could remember and the baking soda stood out as important. Will try to improve through washes and dusts now. Thanks.
James

Looks good James, forget the Blacken-it,it's easier and cheaper to paint and weather them with regular paints and pigments

JAMES ,

Great lookin' Panzer !! Just add some more weathering to th Trax & You'll have it !!

James,'Raider' might have a point there.
You could do it that way;https://www.modelersalliance.com/forum/ground-power/40698-german-recce-tank?limit=8&start=24#57554

If you don't like that, have a look at the Uschi van der Rosten video, and re-do it.[think it's more or less the same product]

Panzer III Ausf J Finished

I'll call this one finished. Sorry no pics. Tried to dirty it up just a bit more and I think it now looks like crap. But it is finished :) First one of the year start to finish and into the display cabinet. Very happy at that. Have a lot to learn about weathering though. Learned a lot from this build also as it was a number of Firsts. Next one can only be better I hope.

Re: Panzer III Ausf J Finished

C'mon man! Glad to hear you have it finished, wish you were happier about the outcome. What's next?

I need pant for my boat so thats a none event at the moment, Dont feel like doing the Stug, so looked around and saw a Sdkfz 251 C17 that I had started years ago. Giving it a try, but I dont have ivory paint for the interior so not sure. I need paint for my Mig 23. Maybe start my Rumpler.

First I doubt that the Panzer looks all that bad. Second most open top German halftracks were painted the exterior color. Stuff before the 1943 color change would be dark grey even if was repainted the dark yellow. So you need the ivory color.

Hopefully I'll learn how to do this right by the next one.

James, that isn't crap, just a bit overdone. Depending on what you used to set the pigments, you may be able to tone it down with a stiff brush and some elbow grease. Bravo for trying new stuff!! :notworthy :notworthy

I agree (y) (y) (y) Bravo for trying new stuff. If it was that easy there would not be anything to learn.

Cheers, Christian B)

JAMES,

Huh ? You didn't screw this up . As SHARK mentioned. dust up th Turret to match & you'll be Golden !! I Dig it !! Those Panzers gathered a Ton of Dust on those Long road marches into th Steppe !!

I Dig it !

:erik

Thanks James! (y)

Like the others said,if you didn't use pigment fixer[the MIG stuff] you might be able to get the dust of the tank.
Good for you that you give new methods a try!
The next one will be better for sure. ;)

Greetings,Ron.

James, dust up the turret and make it look like it's been trough a real dusty ride (y)
We learn from our mistakes (and god knows i should be a professor right now!).
There is always a way to fix things, i even managed to build my bedford QL!... now i'm turning the house upside down to try and find the decals for it grrr.... :pinch:
//Mats

like the others said - a bit more dust on the turret and less on the hull and your panzer is spot on ... running gear is already great ...

triple cheers on trying new techniques! :v

Weathering and trying to duplicate field painting must be the most difficult techniques to master James, looks like you are there. :yipee
